When you start safe mode select the restore toolbars and controls option

done that and all it gives me is a black bar that runs the length of the screen where everything should be.

It is very strange. I have even uninstalled and installed it back still does it!

Make sure when you uninstall you tell it to delete all stored preferences and user data.. maybe create a new ff profile
