Shanahan: Portis will be allowed to test the market (updated: Portis officially released)

Hearing from a lot of sites that its all but a done deal that Portis is released tomorrow.

I know i've kind of hated on him in the past, but honest i'm neutral about it this time. We know that this has been a long time coming. Portis has played alot of football, and his body just isnt up to the task anymore. I'm fairly certain that he will find a new home as a backup RB, but hopefully nothing more. Portis' mind tells him he can start, but his body and the rest of the NFL know that's not the case.

I personally think they should have moved on from him after 2009, but I understood the salary cap ramifications and everything else.

Good luck Clinton. The Redskins need fresh legs at RB, and this is definatley best for the team.
