After being introduced to football at age 15, Shar parlayed his athletic ability into a scholarship to the University of Nevada after a successful career at University High School in Irvine. As a two-time team captain, he helped lead the Nevada Wolfpack to three conference titles and a spot in the 1990 National Title game. He left Nevada in 1993 as one of its most decorated players in history: an All-American, Academic All-American, three-time All-Conference, and the team's 1992 Most Outstanding Offensive Player. He was also inducted in the Nevada Hall of Fame in 2005. After being passed over in the 1993 NFL draft and being cut by the Cleveland Browns, Shar played two seasons for the Canadian Football League's Baltimore Stallions, where he was a two-time all-star and recipient of the CFL's Most Outstanding Lineman Award in 1994. Since that transition, he was the integral part of eight startup companies, and is now widely-regarded as a business startup expert.
