I truly hope we make our own stars this year.

Seriously, I am so sick of having to bring in guys that have been developed elsewhere and then overpay for them -- getting a system where we build through the draft and can afford to let long time veterans go to other teams and restock draft picks is the system that the best teams in the league have instituted.

You'd think it would be obvious to us by now that that's how you build a team, but something in the water at Redskins Park had everybody convinced that we are a player or two away from being a consistently winning football team. I think we're changing that mentality this year, although in future years I don't anticipate so many free agent signings.

if we had gone 8-8 or 9-7 it'd mean we probably would need this many players, but our roster was worse than awful and paper thin... galloway? for what? 12 games? *sigh*

We definitely did sign a lot of old players last year that had no chance of sticking around for the long term. I think last year Shanny had the mentality that it would take multiple years to rebuild this team in his image and this year would be the year to get most of the bulk of that done, since this year's free agent class was expected to be the youngest and deepest in several years due to how the NFL was set up after the owners opted out of the CBA. Last year was about signing players just to make it through the year. No way guys like Galloway, Holliday, etc. were expected to be here long term. Shanny just didn't want to go into the season with a roster that had very few of his own guys in it. When Vinny/Zorn left they really did leave this team in shambles.

That is the only way that we are going to be good this year: if our "farm system" pays off.
