Gnats 17

First win against the Giants since '07!
I am hoping we take advantage of all their weaknesses, one of those is ST coverage units. I am hoping Banks takes their first punt all the way (no flags Riley!) and they start popping those suckers out of bounds for a 30yd net punt avg. The back of our D is very much a ball hawk unit now, so I agree 2+ Ints for Eli is likely, and won't start their year off very well. I also expect we will be trying to flank or short pass over their DLine, which is the main strength at this point.

If we don't win, it will be because of our mental mistakes more than the NYG outplaying us. And I don't expect many mental mistakes from the starters at this point.

Re: Redskins vs. Giants pre-game thread

As far as I can tell, the Giants' strength will, again, be their running game. I think we have made huge improvements in stopping that, particularly the inside running game. I just don't think the front 7 gets pushed around like it did last year. With the running game stuffed, the Giants will turn to the passing game. Eli will be Eli - some sweet passes mixed in with some boneheaded interceptions. Manningham and Hicks v. Our Secondary (presumably w/out Landry) is not even close. I am envisioning the Giants abandoning the run fairly early if they get behind and making Wheaties out of D. Hall (i.e. having him for breakfest). They may not make quick scores with Otogwe back there BUT they will eat up yards in chunks through the air. The only way to stop this is for our front seven to get pressure, and lots of it, to disrupt Eli's rhythm and bring out the Erratic Eli.

To me, the question mark is our offense:
- The first teamers looked great in preseason. Will it translate to the whole game?
- Our O-Line will be fine if we get their D-Line moving but I just don't think it can line up and blow anyone back off the line. 3rd & Short is not a good down for us.
- Rex, Rex, Rex ... Dear God help us! (BTW - if it had been Beck, this line would have read "Beck, Beck, Beck ... Dear God help us!")
- Is Hightower the real deal? or do he and Rexy combine for 4 fumbles and 2 INTS?

If our offense is, in fact, the real deal, this could end up being somewhat of a shoot out.

I think our offense shows up for real against the Giants injury ridden D and that our front 7 get into Eli's head against his inexperienced line. The Giants make some big plays and score a couple TD's (courtesy of D. Hall's excellent coverage skills), but the Skins run Hightower at will and keep them off balance with some solid mid-range passing for Rex. 31 - 14 Skins.

Bold prediction: Rex throws NO interceptions and doesn't fumble. Has a game like he had in the first preseason game. Sharp Sharp Sharp.

Back to the giants, I really feel that the Skins are going to run the ball....a lot! G-men are soft in the middle now and they don't want Grossman going back on every play to pass....cause that would be just Gross....man.
Who doesn't make bad plays in the NFL? You're playing against high caliber athletes for 120+ plays. Bad things are bound to happen.

Mistake free football is a unreachable goal for every franchise in the NFL.

With all the injuries the Giants are there for the taking. I think the Skins can win this one if they can keep Grossman upright. I look for Santana to have a big day.

Re: Redskins vs. Giants pre-game thread

This Skins offense is going to be the highest-scoring offense we've had since '91. It won't be anywhere near THAT caliber, but we'll score more points than in recent memory.

Week 1:

Redskins 34
Giants 17

The Giants have no depth at secondary due to key injuries at CB and their D-line and LB crew are missing key parts. We'll run AND throw all over them.

Compare it to our injury list, missing only Jenkins long-term:

Not a problem...we'll save him to play against the good teams. We won't need him this week. :headbange
