Re: Sex Abuse Scandal Rocks Penn State
I think at this point keeping him on has nothing to do financially because they have to know the fall out is going to cost them money. I'm guessing he is gone before the end of the yea because of the fincial hit the school is going to take.

Penn State President Graham Spanier will quit or be fired today in wake of Sandusky charges, source says | lehighvalleylive.com
President getting fired. They should have Joe and McQueary on that list too.

Re: Sex Abuse Scandal Rocks Penn State
M. Millen mentioned "due process" & that "taking care of it myself" was not the "right way" to do things. He also said let the investigators do their job.
I think it's best that Joe Pa step down asap. However, that should not mean that he's been conspiring to protect Sandusky all these years. Of course we can say he should've done more, but don't put a disproportionate amount of blame on JoePa. One day he'll tell his side & I think it may change some minds, even if he's still to blame. On the other hand, I'm open to the possibility that he also used Sandusky for leverage. So, yeah, there's more to learn about this before we crucify anyone (though Sandusky needs a miracle to be found not guilty). Smootsmack et al, here's a conspiracy theory for ya; remember when JoePa's job was in jeopardy & there was talk of him resigning? Could keeping quiet on this been part of a deal to keep his job? |

I really don't think it's too far fetched thought at all Smoot. It's obvious the guy sold his soul to move up the chain in college football. Cory Giger - ESPN Cory Giger is dead on that McQueary or Paterno shouldn't be allowed to coach in this game come Saturday. People say I shouldn't wish the death of their football program because of innocents involved. Well, their board of trustees is making my statement that much stronger. If they allow them to coach this weekend and continue to coach the rest of the year, I hope they are sued so bad that their football program goes under. If the students and alumni had any bit of class and dignity, they'd be protesting to, so I have no qualm about them losing shit that they didn't see as a big issue. It really is a slap in the face to the victims at this point to allow any of those guys back on the field.

Re: Sex Abuse Scandal Rocks Penn State
Paterno has been involved in several controversial scandals including being forced to apologize for a profanity-laced tirade directed at then Rutgers head coach Doug Graber at the conclusion of a nationally televised game in 1995,[22] being accused of "making light of sexual assault" in 2006 by the National Organization for Women which called for his resignation,[23] and being involved in a road rage incident in 2007.[24]

Re: Sex Abuse Scandal Rocks Penn State
His statement really only makes him sound sorry he finally got caught. And he really should step down right away. And should spend the rest of his life doing everything he can helping the victims, not so much the university.
Still, I can't imagine what a horrible fall for grace this is for Paterno

Smoot. Please pat Stephen Smith and Skip Bayless on the back for me with their hard stance on Joe Pa getting fired immediately.

Re: Sex Abuse Scandal Rocks Penn State
Anyone read the grand jury report? Some pretty sick shit. Sandusky was having anal sex and giving blow jobs to 10 year old boys!!!!! And no one called the cops??? WTF??? To think that Paterno and his cronnies were covering for this POS just makes me sick. Paterno thinks he should coach on Sat. The guy actually thinks he's bigger than this whole scandal. Amazing.

I don't think Joe thinks he's bigger than the scandal. I simply think he has absolutely zero idea how to handle something like this. I'm not making excuses for his lack of action when he found out about the abuses, I'm only talking about how he's acted since it all came out this week.

Re: Sex Abuse Scandal Rocks Penn State
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Joe Paterno's retirement was effective immediatley and he was not going to finish the season.
I think what should happen, is that Joe should be brought up on charges, and his name and reputation should basically be trashed because of this. They should take his name and face down from Penn State as the ultimate punishment, which still isn't enough for a guy who covered up a major sex scandal involving little kids for the better part of 15 years. When the fallout is over, he should be completley blacklisted from college football and penn state. This makes me think of the Chris Benoit WWE situation where even though Benoit was in the hall of fame and all that, they removed all mention and memory of him in wake of his crime he committed...
