Deserves and if he'll actually go first ballot are two different things.

Mike Nelms was my favorite as well. I know this might piss the younger fans off, but I liked Nelms slightly better than Brain Mitchell as well. Mitchell has much more yards because he played alot longer and played on better and more talented teams. But after watching them both play, Mike Nelms (in my opinion) was slightly more explosive as a pure play maker on kick returns. Plus do you remember Mike Nelms was also the #2 safety and the #1 goal line safety. He would tackle and hit so hard that coaches limited his play on defense because he would end up bruising/hurting his shoulders and they did not want to lose him on returns. He was a big hitter. |

The same could be said of Monk when he retired, he seemed like a lock to go into the Hall quickly.
I could easily see the Hall voters making excuses to keep Mitchell out. He was just a special teamer, he wasn't a gamebreaker, blah, blah, blah. |

Taken in context, Howard Cosell didn't actually call Garrett anything. One of the politically (in)correct words he used at least four times that I know of is listed below along with the context of how he used it. FOR THE RECORD: It has already been proven that these comments had nothing to do with racism. Cosell was a strong civil-rights supporter of all athletes including Curt Flood, Jackie Robinson, Hank Aaron, Arthur Ashe, Muhammed Ali, and John Carlos/Tommy Smith (1968 Olympics) among others. FACT: There are at lease FOUR separate "little monkey" comments made by Cosell, (not just one or two). #1. "You know that little monkey... again, the theorem was that he was too small for pro football." - August 29, 1972 K.C. Chiefs vs. N.Y. Giants preseason HOF game (re: Mike Adamle) #2. "Look at that little monkey run!" (Unidentified player, mid 70's game, punt or kickoff return?) Does anyone remember who this one was about??? #3. "Joe Gibbs wanted to get that kid, and that little monkey gets loose doesn't he?" - September 5, 1983 Dallas at Washington (re: Alvin Garrett) #4. "That little monkey can really pick it." 1982, Cosell called white Atlanta Braves second baseman a "little monkey" while praising his fielding skills. (re: Glenn Hubbard) I have already eliminated Alvin Garrett (Washington Redskins), Mike Adamle (K.C. Chiefs), and Joe Washington (Baltimore Colts and Washington Redskins) with my review of those games and players above. Note: It was not the game where Joe Washington ran a last minute 91 yd kickoff return for a touchdown to win the game 34-27 during the September 18, 1978 Monday night game between the Baltimore Colts at New England Patriots. |

Re point 2. I felt I had to throw that in there just so people wouldn't think me a racist for rehashing it. I am sure you know that there are those out there that thought it was.... and THAT is why I added that part. More to my actual question. If not Alvin Garrett, who was Cosell referring to? |

Cosellfan, I'm trying to word this right so you'll understand. If you keep posting stuff that nobody wants to talk about, you're not going to get a response worth your time.
And if you think rehashing old threads that nobody cares about will help you get to ten posts fast enough to let you create your own thread that nobody will care about, well that won't help either. Just let time run its course and hope that someone is nice out to find out who Cosell was talking about in some quote from 1974 or whatever. Don't be like all the other new people who come here and post the same crap ten times so they can start their new thread asking some question nobody feels like answering.
