Re: 2012 QB Prospects (Part 2)
The team that would benefit the most if Manning was traded, would be the 49ers. Alex Smith would be a FA, they have a young QB in the wings that Manning could mentor and are a playoff team.

Re: 2012 QB Prospects (Part 2)
Either them or the Jets would be the ideal place for Manning. I don't think he will be traded at this point. My guess is that Luck and Manning will be forced to coexist for a year or two.

Re: 2012 QB Prospects (Part 2)
36 years old or not, the Colts will want a high price in trade. I'm not sure what team would make that move because the price will be so steep. I'm with you, I don't see Manning coming here.

Did you actually listen to this. Because I think your statement about what they said is pretty inaccurate

Re: 2012 QB Prospects (Part 2)
Maybe I am. But with a group of solid vet wr's...Stallworth, Moss and Gafney, plus Hank coming back, a real good TE, revamp the line and bring in a fa or two and with an above average defense and a healthy Manning this team could contend. It certainly would be a conterder in the division. Hell...right now this team plays competitive games in the division with Rex Grossman.
All I'm saying is the FO office wants to win now. Rebuilding and taking 3-4 years isn't their thing.
We ARE rebuilding, that doesn't mean they don't want to "win now." Of course they do, but other than the mcnabb deal the new regime has shown it will not do so at any cost. Compare our moves to Philly's this year. This article in today's WP explains it well & gives some #s to back it up. Boswell even calls BS on Allen saying "the future is now." Maybe there is some motive causing him to lie about the state of the organization. But with the general manager not believing in rebuilding, the head coach doesn't believe in rebuilding, and the owner not sure what the heck the difference is anyway, I would suggest that rebuilding is a figment of the fans imagination. There is nothing fundamentally different with this organization now vs. five years ago. There are different decision-makers, being that Bruce Allen is not Vinny Cerrato, and Mike Shanahan is not Joe Gibbs, but whether or not the decisions are consistently better than in the Snyder-Cerrato-Gibbs days is not something I think I have enough evidence to pass an opinion on. I think it looks pretty similar. The front office is pretty much the same guys as five years ago. The only thing different is a couple of people at the top who hold the authority. The fact that the scouting department is still marginalized is identical between the regimes.

Greenberg said he (Greenberg) thinks it could be a place with Mike and Kyle where Peyton could find himself. Golic said he didn't think he will leave Indy but that he, unlike Theismann, doesn't think that he'd have a problem adjusting to a different system such as Shanahan's. Where as Theismann and I believe Greenberg think that the Redskins would have to adjust their system. But anyway, the conversation was more about could Peyton Manning successfully transition to another team.

Re: 2012 QB Prospects (Part 2)
I don't think you can call what they're doing a 'rebuild'.
And at the same time its not quite win now. Its somewhere in the nebulous confusion that occurs when your HC is your GM, two positions that are often at cross purposes. |
