Don't release him, because then he'd hit the open market and get a sweet deal. Trade him somewhere, to the team he'd hate to be on most, so he would be forced to keep the shitty deal he signed as a rookie.

Punish him as much as humanly possible. Send him to a shitty team along with his shitty contract.

I'm holding out hope that he's an innocent bystander in all this. But if he's involved criminally, ship him out.
