Sure it sucks that we have to wait until season 3 of Shanahan to get our potential franchise QB moving forward, but what good does it do to fire Shanahan if he's not a 10 win coach in his first year with his new (and likely rookie) QB?
You're exactly correct! I've argued that the first season shouldn't even be considered under evaluation, because Shanahan wanted to simply evaluate the players who were already on the team. He brought in new players in positions where it was obvious that the 'skins needed help, but other than that, he truly didn't know what type of team he was inheriting. The true start of purge and rebuild didn't start until last offseason, but a lot of that was hampered by the lockout. So, this will be the first complete offseason in which Mike Shanahan and the rest of the coaching staff can execute their offseason plans without any road blocks.

So, with that being said, it MAY not be necessary for the Redskins to give up a lot to secure another QB for next season. Don't get me wrong, the Redskins NEED a QB, but they also need to stick with the plan of continuing to build the TEAM and its depth and not get caught up in drafting a QB just to be drafting a QB. I think Shanahan wants to knock it out of the park in regards to landing a franchise QB, and that might not be possible with the way THIS offseason is going to be. I would be more or less disappointed that we'd have to endure another year of Rex Grossman, but ultimately, I LOVE the idea of having a solid team built and in place for a young quarterback to come in and develop.
