What that does is take the onus off of him and makes Snyder look like he's gone back on his words and like the quick triggered impulsive owner that everyone thinks he is. That being said, he won't go into the final year of his contract as a lame duck. He will either get an extension or resign after 4 years.
Does that make us the only organization in the league that has the coach making his case for keeping his job openly in the media? Yes, I think it does.

Snyder can fire who he wants whenever he wants. Winning games is still what Shanahan is getting more than $7 million a year to do.

If it's more of the same though, he's done.
I agree with this. I think one of the challenges of being highly optimistic this year is the fact that there were a couple of games where the team flat out quit on MS. It was just pathetic to see them out there, and regardless of MS' resume or the (lack of) talent out there, some of those games were inexcusable.

I will say that the small improvements in the last couple of games gave me some optimism. But I really hope that I don't see any stupid offseason moves (similar to the McNabb trade or going with the Rex/Beck tandem) or see the team once again quit on MS. As Tripp said, if they go 8-8, but with an improved team (just like the Panthers this season), MS job will be safe for 2013.

Ruhskins:

Have to ask. In your sig you have one of the words made up on The Warpath that I cannot "figure out".

What was "Rewalsr" supposed to be in English?

Rewalsr is a good one. This happened when the Rams released Atogwe, and someone started a thread titled "Rams Rewalsr Atogwe" (instead of "release") or something along the lines. I believe this person was posting from their phone and completely botched the spelling. We all had a laugh about it for a couple of days.

Thank you.

I could have gone for days without unscrambling "Rewalsr"...

Ok so your a HC in the NFL and your in the same position as MS, two losing seasons, what do you tell the media if they ask you about your job and if you are gunna be around next year? Basically thats what happened to him. He was questioned about his job security so he said as far as I know my job is safe, I'll be here next year.

It would have been better had DS or Allen came out and said something like "we are happy where this organization is heading or we are happy with what MS is doing for this club and we like the direction." They didn't, so when MS was asked he answered.

He's just covering his ass, re: Snyder's promise. The argument off, 'waaaahhh, but you promised!' doesn't appeal to me on an emotional level because I am not nine years old and it doesn't appeal to me on a logical level because things were different in December 2009. But it's really designed to just influence the decision-making of one person: Snyder.

I think it has a dual purpose of reminding the fans and media that Snyder was once in it for the long haul, re: Shanahan, but this is a coach who didn't get a vote of confidence from his owner during a long losing streak. In that context, Shanahan's comments make sense to me, as you said. It's not like he's going to come out and say "boy, I'd be really lucky if they have me back next year. If I was them, I'd cut me the $20 million and move on."

I'm not accusing him of lying, and I believe him when he says that he made that condition to Snyder. I just don't believe Snyder ever planned on letting his feelings on his hiring influence his decisions more than year to year results. And why should he?

I thought I remember BS saying something to this effect after our last game but I could be mistaken?

Regardless...I actually think total silence from Snyder and/or Allen is best. The franchise is in a very precarious position at this point with a legacy coach who's gameday performance thus far has been underwhelming and often head-scratching and talent evaluation highly questionable.

Without significant improvement this off-season and into the 2012 season it doesn't really matter whether Mike stays or goes this time next year. If he stays we'll know to expect another couple/few losing seasons under his leadership, or lackthereof. If he goes we'll be stuck w/ the mish-mash of a roster he's built and no real direction set for his replacement. 2012 is the make or break season, though I think a risk-reward analysis indicates the wise move (by the FO) is moving on from Mike's regime now.

Agreed. There's no reason to say anything if you aren't going to make a move.
