It greatly complicates the ability of the Rams to trade the pick for above-market value if teams know they can't beat the Browns. Basically, unless the Rams are actually willing to take Robert Griffin with the second overall pick, their only leverage comes from the Redskins interest in the pick (because it wouldn't make sense for the Rams to drop too much further down in the draft than sixth). If the Redskins want to go to 3rd overall to jump the Browns, the Rams aren't going to get a whole lot of serious offers for that pick.
