Having hired Ryan Tannehill's former head coach as its new offensive coordinator, the Miami Dolphins stand uniquely positioned to make a decision on whether or not he's the right choice to lead them into the future at QB, as Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel explored in a post this weekend. Ultimately, Kelly concludes that it's too early in the process to say whether the Dolphins would consider him with their first-rounder -- either No. 8 or No. 9, depending on a coin flip with the Carolina Panthers -- but that Tannehill can't be ruled out as an option.

A lot can change between now and the draft, given that teams will be signing veteran free agents in the interim. For the Dolphins, the potential addition of such a player -- be it Peyton Manning or Matt Flynn -- would likely mean that they would not target a QB with their first-rounder. It's using that as a hypothetical possibility that Mel Kiper, Jr. sent a player at another position to Miami at No. 9 in his most recent mock draft:
