Well to go off what you are implying, lets say RGIII is a bust. It takes the team 3-4 years to finally make the decision not to give him another chance. We trade four to five draft picks for him, and slug along for 4 years never accomplishing more than we have in the last three years.

Going through a HC or two in the process.

Just saying. There is risk to it all, and this is what this decision is going to be either way. For me I see the risk in signing PM to a deal is what you said above: two years and he is done. BTW if we only get two years out of him because he is never gets fully heathy. This would get us in position to fix the problem again. RGIII is not the only good quarterback to come out over the next few years. The reward is getting 4-5 good to great years out of him, and winning a lot of games between now and then.

Trust me I get RGIII. If we were drafting in a position to draft him, I would draft him. BUT Peyton Manning's don't hit the market to often.

I'd be stoked to have Peyton Manning.

I'd be stoked to have Griffin even if it means trading several picks.

The only thing I won't be stoked about is if we come away from this offseason without a high-quality QB. It's time to end the era of QB mediocrity one way or another.

1. To fix the problem again we would have to trade up in a future draft to get a franchise QB, so what is the difference? All we have done is delayed the gamble.

2. You really think PM is going to play an elite level until he is 41? Get. Real. He will be 36 in a week or two and has had major neck surgeries.

1. Ok, I am not sold on trading away four top draft choices in this and next years draft for RGIII. I am much more inclined to take a chance with money and save our picks (possibly acquire more in a trade back) have another solid draft and sign PM.

2. If you read my post I was simply giving the best case scenario for what we get out of him. Do I really think we could get that out of him? He could play until he is 40. So that would give you 4 years. I would feel safe in saying three good years in him, in those three drafts you find a guy, and groom him to take over. BTW there may be a player in this year's draft that could be the next Matt Schaub or insert late round draft pick who is now a hot RFA and FA this year.

But you still didn't respond to my point. If we do the Peyton Manning route this year in a few years time we are still looking for a franchise QB. It is likely in order to get that franchise QB we will have to deal picks in the future to move up high enough in the draft to get one, so what is the difference between rolling the dice this year and waiting 2 or 3 years to do it? I understand you have more picks for the draft this year but you are just delaying the inevitable. And there may not be a guy worth trading up for in a draft a few years in the future. What then? Settle for an average FA or late round draft pick? My point is if the coaches feel like RG3 is worth it, then you go after him. You don't know what things are going to look like 3 years down the road.

With your second point I agree that there could be a player in the draft that could be a diamond in the rough. But looking at the law of averages, who is going to be more likely to pan out, a top 10 QB prospect or a 6th round no name? Tom Bradys' aren't exactly falling out of the sky on the regular.
