Hypothetically though, I guess the reason to do it this early if they were to do it would be as a selling point to potential free agents. Instead of saying "we're trying to get RG3" they would get to say that they pretty much will have RG3 come April.

To that point, it would definitely help and hurt us to acquire the pick sooner. On one hand if we acquired it earlier it would help in creating a definitive plan to improve the roster, as Dirtbag said, but on the other hand if we waited until draft day to do the trade odds are decent we might pay less in terms of draft picks.
