Redskins Sign Safety Tony Dixon
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/column...len&id=2089318
In a move that adds experience to the secondary mix but which, perhaps more importantly, provides insurance against the possibility that Sean Taylor's legal entanglements could sideline him for a portion of the season, the Washington Redskins on Saturday signed free agent safety Tony Dixon. heh, well at least we have insurance now. even though i've never heard of him, after hearing that he impressed his audience i suppose he might be a good fit in gregg williams system.

Thanks for the info mooby. I edited out most of what you had posted since you already have the link and so that it didn't take up all of the top fold of the homepage

Re: Redskins Sign Safety Tony Dixon
He is not as talented as taylor is but will help the loss if taylor is unable to go. Basically all he has to do is to ball hawk for us and that will be great. I doubt it that he will start anyway because of lott, clark and prioleau(a former gw guy in buffalo). I'm pretty sure that lott can hold his own in our system. The way I feel I wished we would have drafted K2 at least we know that he would not have gotten to any trouble off the field like taylor but maybe a motorcycle accident. I still can't believe that st got himself into that mess he is a professional now and he needs to grow up and be a role model. He has gotten paid way to good for that aggravation that he is causing the fans, the team, and nfl.

Re: Redskins Sign Safety Tony Dixon
taylor played in all the games last year, k2 hasn't even really gotten on the field, and he wont make it this year either, but taylor will... so that'd be a very very bad regret to have

It's good to know that we weren't interested in signing Schulters. That may have been a sign of Taylor being away for awhile.

He hasnt done anything that bail would be denied. So he wont miss any games this year because of any legal issues. Any competent attorney will prevent trial until 2006.

Re: Redskins Sign Safety Tony Dixon
I read about that when I got back this weekend. That was a good move. I was hoping for some TRUE quality depth at safety pending the Taylor investigation.

I sure hope Lott's knee injury isn't serious though, it doesn't seem to be but you never know with a knee injury

Re: Redskins Sign Safety Tony Dixon
Hopefully we will be over prepared by the time preseason arrives and I like the move of grabbing up Dixon. Ultimately, though, I want to see Sean Taylor on the field disrupting things instead of disrupting things off the field.

Re: Redskins Sign Safety Tony Dixon
I do see the Dixson signing as insurance if Taylor gets supended. But I see it more as a possibility that he could work his way to be becoming our starting Strong Safety some day.
In fact he might be better suited to be a SS more than a FS, because of his playing style. The article says, " Dixon, 25, has started at both safety positions and so he will present ever-creative coordinator Gregg Williams with some options on how to deploy him." It also says, "The former Alabama standout is a solid defender against the run and a very effective blitzer" (perfect for a SS). Dixson has great size at 6',1" 210 lbs. and is also a former second round pick, so he came out of college with a higher regard than any of our current saftey's except for ST. Maybe he just needs some time to develop and he could replace our current SS, who is one dimensional and not very good against the pass. |
