Re: Who are the Coach Killers?

Vick is already at coach killer status if you ask me. He's the first name that came to mind.

I wouldn't put Rivers in the conversation. The talent around him has really dropped off the last couple years.

I can understand why you say that about Vick. There is so much else wrong with the Eagles that I'm not yet ready to say he's a Coach Killer. I'm getting closer each time I see him play.

I might have been a bit tough on Rivers. Especially since the GM has wrecked that team, IMO.

So has Rivers' play.

That game where he basically played on one leg was gutsy and impressive, but he's had more mistakes from his hot head than hero performances.

I do agree though, his GM and basically entire team is a mess, but a Pro Bowl QB should be able to hide a lot. It hasn't with Rivers. Look at his last couple of seasons...20 INTs last year and already 14 this year. He's starting to fall apart from where he used to be. He's still an accurate passer, but he's starting to look just like Jay Cutler, a boom or bust guy who will make mistakes in tough situations...and won't act like a man about it.

I'd chalk up his INTs to him trying to do too much with the limited talent around him.

Losing LT was big. Sproles hurt big time, Vincent Jackson has been a monster(his stats this year have been jaw dropping)...Rivers been hurt by lose of talent. Still dont know why they let Sproles walk.

I don't know why they let Brees walk.

Sure he hurt his shoulder at the time, but he was always better than Rivers.

For a while Vick carried what I would call the dreaded "winner" label. To me when you're labeled a winner it means you have huge holes your game but you have enough highlights to acquire a large following of apologists as well as a winning record thats almost always the product of a great defense and running game. When a QB is at the top of their game we call them elite, franchise, pro bowler, etc.

Tom Brady, Eli Manning, Peyton, Big Ben, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees. No one calls these guys winners. Okay Brady near the start of his career but soon after that he was able to impose his will on any defense after which he went from being a winner to elite quarterback.

Right now the "winners" at QB are as follows:
Cam Newton - "He's won everywhere he's been....except the NFL but thats not his fault."

Tim Tebow - "He just wins".....yeah but thats only if he has an elite defense that can keep the game close enough for him to put up the 14th or 17th point on the board. Broncos 23rd in total offense for 2011, 5th in 2012.

Mark Sanchez - Alright he stepped his game up in the playoffs as a rookie and a sophmore but ironically being able to perform in the playoffs means nothing if you can't even get there.......weird problem to have.

Michael Vick - For years could not pass to save his life and when he was on the street as a free agent people tried to lobby for him saying he was a winner. Ironically when he was an MVP candidate with the Eagles the winner label got dropped in favor of him being called an elite QB.

I don't know maybe it's just me but when I hear someone call a player a "winner" I feel like someones trying to sell me on a girl by saying "well, she has a great personalty." lol
