Re: How far can Beck take us?

Normally I don't get very excited about pre-season games. This year is going to be different, mainly because of the QB situation. It's going to be an opportunity for this Beck/Grossman competition to play itself out in the face of some very competitive teams, somewhere along the line a victor will emerge.

Last flat out open preseason competition we had was between Wurfel/Matthews/Rosenfels. Fun to watch but hopefully the end result will be better this time around.

I believe Grossman instantly gives us our best chance to win. Of course we're not in a win instantly mode. But then my concern with Beck is that dude's already 30 (in mid August) so is he our long term answer. Maybe. But I'm not quite convinced yet. I'm curious to see what happens this summer

C'mon Smooty, you know the answer to that(his being a long term option). The HC and the FO didn't like what they had to work with in terms of QB potential this draft. If they did Ryan Mallet would have been our #1 pick or Locker. Both will not make it in the NFL. It still blows my mind that so many were hooked on Locker. The guy had no accuracy, and his INT ratio sucked. He could get it done on the ground, but his passing game was questionable. I was sort of surprised they didn't go with Ponder, but Shanny and our scouts must have seen that he wasn't a good fit or something. Next season some real good QB prospects will be coming out that aren't named Luck. I am thinking Shanny wants at least one of them. Beck is an emergency stop gap if Rexy sucks or goes down early on in the season. He is not our long term answer. Maybe our long term backup, but not starter. IF the guy couldn't break 3rd string with the sad ass Dolphins, I doubt he will be a starter for us, and if he is, we are in a world of trouble.

Assuming we draft a young qb in 2012, were not looking at a truly competitive football team until 2013 or 2014 at the earliest... Snyder had better be patient.

Beck is a disaster waiting to unfolding. It's not going to be pretty trainwreck so you guys best have hardened stomach. I can't wait for this clown to go away.

I can see why Shanny feels that Beck might have success in this league. Couple of things popped out at me...quick feet, good vision and quick release. I also noticed that he tends to telegraph his passes (tunnel vision) and his accuracy is a big question mark.

Re: How far can Beck take us?

i'm pretty sure rex is our starter this season... i'm just not sure beck is good enough to pop in with almost no nfl game day experience can beat out an unproductive nfl starter.

just saying.

Re: How far can Beck take us?

Just a really random thought...If Shanahan could teach Rex some accuracy and consistancy he actually could be a decent QB

Regardless of whoever starts, there probably will be a QB change in about 4 to 6 weeks, so getting upset isn't really worth it. Both QBs have problems.

I'm actually expecting several QB changes throughout the season. I say Beck starts, Rexy comes in at some point, Beck comes back in, same verse same as the first.

It's going to be interesting.

What about Clemens? He's got more starting experience than Beck I believe, and he could pass one of those guys on the depth chart. When he started for the jets I think he was about on Rex's level. Then there's Chappel & Verica. I would be surprised if one of those guys makes it as #3.
