The pop princesses, Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood are the ones who are blowing up.
Well, I think Kelly was a cookie cutter pop princess while she was on Idol. She was singing ballads and such. But she's changed her style now, she's got a rock edge to her. Her first album, which had her doing the cookie cutter pop stuff, sold 3 million copies (on the heels of her Idol fan base). But her new album sold 10 million copies because she reinvented herself and came out with a new style that people are catching onto. You can't be cookie cutter and hit it big, you'll be here today and gone tomorrow because there are a million cookie cutter pop princesses out there. You have to be unique.

Carrie is in the early stages. She's sold 3 million copies with her first album. She's not quite cookie cutter pop because she definitely has a country style, she's like a cookie cutter country pop princess. But there are still a lot of those style country singers out there, so she's going to need to do something special to hit it big like Kelly.

My whole point is Katharine is going to have to change her style if she wants to sell like Kelly did. She can't hit it real big if she sticks to what she's doing on the show. She'll sell 2 or 3 million records with her debut, just because a lot of Idol fans will buy her stuff. But after that, she's going to have to grow. Idol is a good foot in the door, but the artists need to make it happen from there.

I'm not saying I don't like their music, I'm just saying that the demographic of who would buy Elliot or Taylor is way narrower than who would buy Katherine's.

no,i dont have any basis at all about my OPINION,but the one thing i do know is the name of the game is ratings and if having a close vote means higher ratings,i dont think anyone at fox(or any other tv station, for that matter)is above doctoring the results to achieve higher ratings.as far as taylors talent,we can agree to disagree

First off, let me preface this by saying that Katharine is SMOKING hot, but does anyone else think she looks like a total bitch?

Fuel has issues. Besides, when in a band the money is going to get split and he's probably going to get a lesser cut.

Fox definitely does not need to doctor the votes to garner ratings for the show. Idol has been dominating prime time TV ratings for the last four years. It's a cash cow, they don't need to monkey with anything for it to do well. The incentive just isn't there.

That I can agree with.

Plus Katharine would market to a younger crowd, they're the ones who tend to buy CDs. Elliott and Taylor would be marketing to older folks, and they don't buy music so much.

I also think that America is smarter than most of us think. We know WHO we like, regardless of talent sometimes. That's how Pickler got by for so long.

Actually I think she looks like she's got a pretty sweet personality. The term "sweetheart" comes to mind. But I do think she has a bit of an ego, she seemed above criticism this week. She didn't want to hear the judges ragging on her. She thinks she's better than she really is.

I think Elliot would sell the fewest just because if he doesn't go R&B, he's going to stick with that "Songs and Standards" shit that NO ONE listens to except 100+ year old men and women.

Yeah but he didn't accept the Fuel gig yet, and I'm not sure he's going to. I think he feels like he can hold out for something better, or start up on his own.

That site www.votefortheworst.com was behind Pickler for a while there. She could have been boosted by them. But she had a really likeable personality for a lot of people, she got a lot of votes that way too, so you're right, it's not all talent.

If Jay Leno has taught us anything over the years it's the fact that America isn't so smart.
