The guy is alnost certainly the biggest name in the room when the voting committee meets. (See this list.) That gives him an enormous amount of sway with the other voters on issues they don't feel passionate about. He's managing editor for HBO's Inside the NFL, and a senior writer for Sports Illustrated - the largest sports magazine in the world. If you don't think Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch doesn't give Peter King's opinion a little more weight than that of whatever jerk-off they sent from Jacksonville, you should not be allowed to drive a car.
Does Peter King feed them all? Cuts their paychecks? I mean, come on, unless Peter King has the power to throw someone out of the committee I don't see why anyone in that committee wouldn't vote the way they felt! If you really think that being a managing Editor of Inside the NFL with it's measly audience and a senior "FOOTBALL" writer at SI gives him that much power and cred I think perhaps you need to get your head checked.

Cut the conspiracy bullshit folks. Monk simply isn't getting in because not enough of the committee members think he deserves it or have their own agenda. It's as simple as that.

p.s. Len "Fat F*ck" Pasquarelli is on there and you know that bastard is a hatter.

Today's sportswriters are not going to keep Art Monk out of the Hall. I think and I hope. It just might take a few more years.

He basically nominated Thurman Thomas, who in my opinion, is an underachiever. Yet King showers him with praise.

The more I read these threads, the more I'm convinced that "outsiders" are really getting a whiff of how Redskins Nation really feel about this topic.
In the dictionary next to "underachiever" you will see Thomas' picture. He nor his team ever showed up on Super Sunday. On the other hand, you have a talented, "go to guy" who set records, was the classiest of acts and was the backbone of a Super Bowl franchise; who gets dissed every year. The HOF is no longer based on what you did on the field. It is all about the press you got. Art was quiet about what he did because he did it within a team structure. Looks like he will pay the price for not tooting his own horn often enough.... and that is WRONG!!!

It has been reported that King does in fact have a significant amunt of sway in the room. The way the process works is that the final 15 players are each presented and for the first few years of Monks eligibility the biggest voice of dissent was King. essentially he got up every time and railed until he got enough people to agree. Something tells me that almost any player could be kept out if one respected person made a strong and passionate enough argument to do so. Now he has brainwashed enough people that he no longer needs to rail every year. The process is screwy.

Re: Time for some False Hope from Peter King

Does anyone have a list of hall of fame voters?
It's insane that he isn't in.
I will make the trip also when Monk gets in.
Like to see entire redskins organization try to get like 100,000 people to go.
Have to hold it at a speedway.
hahahhahahahahha.
Gonna be huge. Atleast in my heart. I saw Monk play almost every game. He didn't make shit for money and he gave his all every play without ever being a bitch like so many players in the league today. Went over the middle again and again. Let's all promise to take our families and all redskins gear to canton next year! I'm in. God bless Art Monk.

This is a big accomplishment from "US" the real fans that know a Hall of Famer like Art Monk when we see one. We finally got him to at least re-think his position, or at least that is what he is saying.
Did you read the next page? He devotes a decent-sized chunk to the Art Monk debate.

If that's the case then I hate King even more than I thought. How on earth could anyone have something against Art Monk? He was such a class act and his stats don't lie.

At least he's willing to keep an open mind about it, that's all we can ask at this point.

Monk will get in eventually, the landslide of support is starting to build. I think that's something the Hall voters look for, are the fans passionate about a guy getting in.

I think they're starting to see that passion for Monk.

You are right on! The phrase "Long live the King!" doesn't mean he will live forever.
The only king living forever, is the King of Kings! All the rest are in their grave.

Who cares about the HOF?

I have become so sick and tired of all of this nonsense. A group of fatass no-nothing sports writers don't have to validate your career to make you a success. Regardless of how those idiots (and others) feel, Monk was one of the greatest NFL players of ALL TIME.

But...but...it's the Hall of FAME! If you want fame don't you have to be in the Hall of Fame? I mean the amount of fame you can get is much lower if you're only in the Kitchen of Fame, or the Bathroom of Fame. You gotta be in the HALL man, the Hall.
