Re: Steelers cut Joey Porter
The Steelers are keeping the 3-4 while adding 4-3 wrinkles. Ironically NFL Network has been running a Joey Porter commercial for the past few days with him talking about how happy he was to be drafted by the Steelers.

Re: Steelers cut Joey Porter
I think this move is only surprising to some of us because he's a guy whose mouth has far surpassed his level of talent.
I agree with dmek that Porter can still play, but he's expendable. I haven't spent a whole bunch of time exploring the Steelers' defensive options, but Mike Tomlin really seems like he knows what he's doing.

Re: Steelers cut Joey Porter
I would love to sign Porter to somthing like a 3 year 10 million dallor contract. But I bet some one else will spend more and over pay for him. Let's just hope it's not us.
And yea I think that would pretty cool if Lavar went back to Pitt.

After seeing Thomas get away I'd like to grab Porter.

Re: Steelers cut Joey Porter

Re: Steelers cut Joey Porter
I don't think you want anything to do with Joey Porter. Another LB on the downside of 30 with diminishing skills. Definitely a shell of the player he used to be.

Re: Steelers cut Joey Porter
I disagree completely. He had 7 sacks and 40 tackles in 14 games, very solid year for him. Add to that all the leadership he can bring to a defense and he's a very attractive FA to pursue.

Re: Steelers cut Joey Porter
If a team signs Porter, they'll be writing checks far in excess of $10 for 3 years. You might as well hope that the Skins could pick up Peyton Manning for a $5M signing bonus and $4M a year after he opted out of his deal in Indy. Here are the three words that apply in both cases: Not Gonna Happen!
Fletcher will play MLB; that will free up Marshall to move back to OLB where he was actually productive. And it will take Holdman out of the starting line-up. That's just fine - - barring a big injury back there. If you want Porter to play opposite Washington, get ready to use up a humongous portion of whatever cap room is left.

Re: Steelers cut Joey Porter
You'll be happy to know that Holdman is an UFA and we are not going to re-sign him.
