It'll be interesting to see what SD gave up, if it was anything more than a bag of salt, Miami probably stole AJ Smith's wallet also.

I mean, we got Reche Caldwell and Keenan McCardell for nothing, and they are both better players (albiet less feared) than Chambers.

I disagree with the opinion that he's a bad receiver. I think Chambers is a legit No. 1 WR in the league. Against our pass defense, which I think is one of the best in the league, he had over 100 yards. The first three weeks he averaged over 100 per game. Just 2 years ago he had 11 tds and well over 1,000 for the season. The guy may have attitude problems, but he has real skills too. He is WAY above Caldwell and McCardell, at this stage of his career, in talent.

I'd argue that Chambers is a good WR. Don't know why Tripp thinks he isn't.

Re: Chris Chambers to the Chargers

Chambers is a guy who was never able to take that next step and become a truly elite receiver, but always had the talent to do it. He's been in a bad situation up until now. I think this will be a succesful fit for both teams.

But there's one thing in SD that people aren't talking about enough IMO and that's the quarterback. He's TERRIBLE. Were we too quick to crown him as a legit NFL starter?

Never mind the Cam connection, wasn't Norv Chambers' offensive coordinator a few years ago?

Chambers has shown flashes, but to me he's the dreaded "P" word- potential. Tons of it with not a ton of production. But he's never had much of a QB, and as SS pointed out, he's worked with Norv before and I believe had his best season under him. He could be a good fit with SD. Line him up alongside Vincent Jackson, throw in Gates and you've got some big weapons...

Yes, and before that, Norv was the OC in San Diego for one year. Cam got the SD OC job when Norv took the OC job in Miami. SD has run the same offense since 2001 that Miami is running now, so Chambers should hit the ground running. Remember, Cam was a student of Norv's dating back to Norv's tenure with the Skins.

So you don't consider TWO 11 TD seasons solid production? When was the last time we had a receiver with as many as 11 TDs?

Re: Chris Chambers to the Chargers

I will say though, and I've only heard this from a secondary (though pretty reliable) source that one reason Chambers was traded was-apart from his exorbitant salary demands after this season, and the fact that he's a veteran on a team going nowhere fast-that he was having issues with the offense and his negative attitude had worn thin with Cameron and Trent Green.

But, it could also be that he was just pissed to be on such a messed up franchise. A change to SD could do him good.

Didn't say he wasn't ever successful, but he's been VERY up and down in terms of production.

Re: Chris Chambers to the Chargers

I think Miami is clearing house more than anything else. I think Chambers can be a great receiver in the right situation, we'll see if SD is that situation. He'll definitely help LT and Gates regardless of if he gets the ball or not.

I've heard the 'phins are shopping Jason Taylor, but want huge things for him.

Yeah supposedly the Saints wanted Taylor, but the Phins wanted a 1st rounder in return.

He's been known for a while as 50-50, implying that he only catches 50% of the balls thrown to him.

IMO he's a decent receiver, but far overrated. He's be a decent #2. Not a terrible move by the Chargers.

I have been hesitant to agree with giving up draft picks after our draft picks have been thrown away, but if you can get the best defensive end in the league for a draft pick, I say do it.
I do think a N.O. (likely a top 5 pick, or at worst a top 10 pick) 1st rounder is a bit steep for a 33 year old, but a second rounder sounds just right. He has 25.5 sacks in the past two season, and already has 4 sacks in 6 games this year!

About Chambers, this is a perfect move for the Chargers. They are finally putting the pieces together and playing well, and they know they need WR help. Chambers has his issues, sure, but he caught 43 tds in his first 6 seasons, and it's not like he's had any decent QB's throwing to him. It has become obvious Jackson can't handle the #1 wr spot in SD, and now Rivers has a viable weapon outside of Gates and LT. This move will make them more dangerous come playoff time. (keep in mind, they are already tied for 1st in the AFC West).

For those that think we should have pulled this trigger...he's only 5'10"...we have plenty of undersized WR's, it's time for 6'2"+ possession receiver.

Well, that's true, he has been up and down, but I doubt any WR would be very consistant with the massive amount of QB's he's had...not to mention, all of them are sub par. Here is a list of his QB's since he came into the league in 2001.

*- NOTE games are based on time they have appeared in a game (at least 1 attempt) and based off football reference stats.

07- Trent Green (5 games)
06-07- Cleo Lemon (4 games 06, 2 in 07)
06- Dante Culpepper (4 games)
06- Joey Harrington (11 games)
05- Gus Frerotte (16 games)
02-05- Sage Rosenfels (4 games in 05, 3 in 04, 2 in 03, 4 in 02)
04- A.J. Feeley (11 games)
01-04- Jay Fiedler (8 games in 04, 12 in 03, 11 in 02, 16 in 01)
03- Brian Griese (5 games)
02- Ray Lucas (7 games in 02, 7 games in 01)

That's 10 different QB's in a little over 6 seasons. Only 2 times did he start with a QB and end with the same QB, and that was 2001 (his rookie year) with Fiedler (883 yards and 7 tds). The other was with Frerotte in 05 and he had a career high 82 catches, 1118 yards, and 11 tds.
It would be amazingly hard to put up consistant numbers with a revolving door at QB and even worse, all pretty sub par QB's. Rivers is instantly the best QB he will get to work with.
