Well, I mean, it's Detroit. The guy who is accountable has more power than Mooch did, and thus Mooch took the fall.

Detroit is also rare because everyone in the world knows why that franchise isn't winning. Usually there's questions among the fan base, or a scapegoat or something, but Millen is every bit as bad as people bill him to be.

Detroit needed an ass kicker and Mooch wasn't a good fit.

I think if you need a franchise to be turned around from a culture of losing, Mooch probably isn't your guy.

But if you have some pieces in place and need someone to oversee the operation and be a players type of coach, he's probably a better fit in that kind of situation.

Re: I dont mind the changes

As I stated in another thread, I'm fine with either Mooch or Fassel. At the end of the day, we will have an experienced staff on both sides of the ball, a head coach who has taken teams to the playoffs, that has been integral in developing quarterbacks, that's a players coach that veterans will respect and younger players will relate to..

As for all of the 'drama' that the coaching search has created, it's not that big of a deal. I keep pointing to Dallas and SD last year. Dallas was Norv Turner's job, Jerry Jones was hanging out with him all over the place at the Super Bowl and Pro Bowl and then BAM, Wade Phillips is hired (after Garret was hired as OC) and 13 wins later they won the division.. It was February 12th last year when the Chargers fired Schottenhiemer and hired Norv, who we all know isn't much of a coach, and assembled a complete coaching staff, 11 wins and 2 playoff wins later, they are in the AFC Championship game..

Bottom line, whoever the coach is, once training camp rolls around the players will practice hard, play hard and if they have the better gameplan, better execution and better talent than the team lined up across from them, they will emerge victorious. All the other BS is just filling time.

He was doing all the things a coordinator does without the title because Holmgren is the all powerful.

We're not going to be running the West Coast Offense so enough of that talk please. Lets let the coach come out and say what he's going to run first.

Mariucci is all talk no action accept the gold course. Only difference between him and Spurrier is Mooch Italian.

Re: I dont mind the changes

QBall, what makes you think we WONT run the west coast offense? Zorn is a west coast guy, many of the HCs we're looking at is WC guys, and honestly we have west coast personnel.

Considering that's the background he comes from, it's not really too big of a leap to assume he's going to run some sort of WC based offense.

Yeah I hear you on that. Millen is just pathetic. I always liked Mooch, I just don't think he's NFL material. IMO he should go back and coach college. I bet he'd kick some ass if he went back. He does a nice job on NFL Network. Really breaks things down very well.

Re: I dont mind the changes

I think this is where alot of skins fans differ. I personally want changes b/c i feel as if we can only go so far w/ this current team. My changes though are not full scale, they are subtle changes in personel and FO philosophy changes (getting younger, draft emphasis)

That being said i thought and still feel that GW could have done this. His way. This is no longer an issue.

So, i want changes but i don't want a mediocre, aging head coach. I'd be happy w/ Mariucci/Spagnuola (from the things i've heard)/Russ Grimm. What I'd really be happy w/ is a coach that i can be somewhat assured that will make good decisions for the franchise and not have his hands tied when it comes to personel matters.

Both are very good coaches. Now you bring in pretty boy NFL Network Steve Mariucci? I'm not buying it. Think we're going to announce Meeks before him. A hungry Dungy prototype who's defensive minded so its totally Zorn's show. Think we go places quickly with that team of coaches and our players in place.
I watched some Seahawks games and read a bunch about them during the year and they were exactly that dink and dunk offense you say they arent. Shaun Alexander sucked and they couldnt run, their receivers arent that good (burleson and branch were clearly system receivers), so they resorted to running a lot of slants and dump offs.

It worked, and more importantly it shows that Zorn, or whomever, made the adjustment in Seattle because their normal offense wasnt working this year. Unlike Gibbs who I think most would agree is almost down right stubborn at proving that his run first and second and third control the clock and wear out the d scheme.

I understand that both Fassel and Mariucci have now been discounted and that Snyder is now leaning towards keeping the HC position in house. He is at this moment flying on Redskin 1 to interview for an eighth time Mr Six. He has also recruited Mr Magoo to beef up the Front Office and work closely with Vinnie Cerrato on all personnel matters.

Mr. Six is the old dancing dude who used to appear in the Six Flags commercials before Snyder took over

He's just trying to be funny
