Re: Report: Chiefs DE Allen Talking with Vikings, Bucs
I believe that it's because they have many needs and they are trying to stockpile picks. By trading JA for a couple of quality picks, it helps them out with numbers both in personnel and money.

Re: Report: Chiefs DE Allen Talking with Vikings, Bucs
The reason he is on the trading block is because Jared Allen was franchised and he told the Chiefs that he was not going to resign with the team. They figured trade him now why his stock is high rather then lose him next year and get nothing in return

Re: Report: Chiefs DE Allen Talking with Vikings, Bucs
In a fantasy world who wouldn't mind having him (as long as he cuts the mullet, with the fam; that way we can come outta the back room crackin up.)? In reality we have too many needs to give up 2 picks for one guy (unless that guy is Chad Johnson).
Now many of you may be wondering why I would give up two picks for CJ and not for JA. It's simple, the game is determined by how many points are put on the scoreboard, not how many sacks are put on the QB. The defensive line is a need, but the offense is a need as a whole. |

Re: Report: Chiefs DE Allen Talking with Vikings, Bucs
The Vikings spent a first round pick on a DE two-consecutive years to get Kenichi Udeze and Erasmus James. While neither is a "bust", they're obviously not taking care of business if the Vikings are willing to give up a 1st & 3rd pick to get Allen.
What I'm getting at is draft picks (especially in the 20's) are never a sure thing. Jared Allen IS. There is no debate he is one of the best in the league, and is only 25. So, our options are to give up a 1st and 3rd (or 2nd) to get a guaranteed stud, or we could take our chances on a Merling or Thomas or the like (who only had 1 standout season in college - fluke?). I'm all for building through the draft, but it's a lot like gambling. You can bet on the favorite and know that you're likely going to win, or you can bet on the longshot and if it works if you're a genious and if it doesn't (and this is a likely possibility) then you've wasted your money. I like the sure thing. Granted, I'm not saying we should drink silly juice and put forth a rediculously one-sided offer (a la the Champ Bailey trade), but if we can make sense of it, let's do it. |

Re: Report: Chiefs DE Allen Talking with Vikings, Bucs
If he is a system guy then it's because he's a 4-3 system guy instead of a 3-4. In fact the only way a team can screw up Jared Allen is if they come up to him before a game and say, "OK Jared, we're going to line you up at Safety today." That is the only way you can make Jared Allen a bust at this point.

Allen is a good player, but two first round draft picks is too much.

Re: Report: Chiefs DE Allen Talking with Vikings, Bucs
Well Udeze has leukemia and James has had 3 knee surgeries in the past year so neither should be counted for 2008, at least. Trading draft picks for Jared Allen probably won't be too difficult. It's shelling out the $80+ million over 6 years that he reportedly wants.

(As usual) your points are very valid - and indisputable. I agree that we shouldn't overpay/trade for the guy. Hopefully, Danny has figured that out by now, right?! Respectfully, THE ADE |

Re: Report: Chiefs DE Allen Talking with Vikings, Bucs
KC is a team that's definitely in serious rebuilding mode. I guess they figure they'd be better off with picks and I'm sure they are probably hesitant about locking up Allen considering his past legal issues.

Re: Report: Chiefs DE Allen Talking with Vikings, Bucs
you want the vikes to get him. if they do, there's a much better chance of derrick harvey falling to us. not great, but they're the last team he could possibly get to unless they pickup a serious DE before the draft.
