Re: Good Pick Ups from Cuts!!
I agree very much although I don't think this is a retarded thread. If we need to pick up several castoffs we would be a laughing stock garbage team and we are not. We are a good team.

It is a pretty justifiable thread though imo. There are a few cut players that I wouldn't mind at least having come in and having someone take a look at, thats not Dan Snyder of course. To bring a few in and work them out and see if they can offer something we lack makes some sense to me but I know nothing of cap ramifications, salaries or any financial matters. But keep hunting for those retarded threads Schneed10. I'm sure I'll make one sooner of later lol

Re: Good Pick Ups from Cuts!!
I wouldnt call Willie Anderson "garbage". He was cut because he wouldnt take a paycut, he is a Probowl offensive lineman(something we could use)

Ricky Manning Jr (Bears) is available. He's young and would be an upgrade over Tyron. Lavar Arrington is also available

Re: Good Pick Ups from Cuts!!
I'm usually one of the first people to jump on these threads but theres definately some interesting prospects out there. Deltha O'Neal seems like he might be a good fit here granted Jerry Wilson can get us good Deltha and not "lets see if he can play WR Deltha." Ahmad Brooks might also be interesting considering he's a relatively local product but the team seems happy with Fincher, Campbell, and Blades at the backup spots. Dre Moore though would be an awesome guy to have on the practice squad and the best part is he wouldn't cost us a draft pick.
Also Tryon needs to be cut. I wonder if theres any substance to what Frost said about Vinny keeping 10 picks to make himself look good. The funny thing is I jumped on the cut Tryon bandwagon when I heard he was a trash talker. I guess I'm good like that. I will say this though. NO DE'S. Taylor, Carter, James, Wilson, Jackson, Evans. We're set at DE. I also wonder if this is the fist time in league history that not only did a team have the leading rusher and reciever in preseason but they also ended up cutting them.

Re: Good Pick Ups from Cuts!!
You guys are delusional.
You can't go out and bring in players at this stage of the preseason and expect them to be able to contribute in any way to your team given that they know NOTHING of your system. The learning curve is already high enough for the offensive players we do have, they're all learning a new system as it is, and now you want to bring in some guys who'd come in blind? It's essentially the same problem on defense. The only way this makes any sense is if the players available are HUGE upgrades in talent over your existing guys. A slight upgrade in talent would not make up for the big learning curve they'll face. The Deltha O'Neal discussion is actually worth having because he actually is hugely talented over Justin Tryon. But so was M. Richardson, and Vinny cut him anyway. There are clearly some non-football forces at play keeping Tryon on the team, and the availability of Deltha O'Neal won't change that one bit.

Re: Good Pick Ups from Cuts!!
I don't really get the outcry about our 4th CB and our punter.. Tryon didn't play very well, true, but it's possible that he showed more potential than Richardson in practice and just needs some time for it all to come together. Also a draft pick gets a little but more leeway, as they should. Richardson could come back on the practice squad and continue to develop.
Derrick Frost is NO great loss. If he were any good, we wouldn't have had the need to replace him. Vinny did him a favor by keeping him in camp and getting him some visual reps in preseason games so another team might pick him up. Otherwise he would have just been a camp body somewhere. He needs to just accept he got beat out and move on. I wasn't surprised to see JLC feeding the anti-Vinny monster, but that act is growing more and more tiresome.

Re: Good Pick Ups from Cuts!!
I think the outcry is justified. Tryon seemed to get worse and worse each week. He's a liability that was being targeted. I agree Richardson isn't much of an upgrade, but it is annoying that he's making the team just because he was a 4th round pick. If he's shown something on the practice field, you think some of it would trickle down to the playing field, and it hasn't. I wouldn't be surprised if what he's shown on the practice field is that he's a few steps behind Maurice Mann, as he gives up TDs.
Willie Anderson would be a great pickup. Honestly, if he could make the transition to RT, he might be an upgrade over Jansen. At the very least, he's great depth, but I guess the issue with him was his salary in Cincy, so he'll probably still want a lot of dough. Dre Moore might be worth a look, given our porous run D, but he didn't show a whole lot during the preseason. |

Re: Good Pick Ups from Cuts!!
Schneed, you are assuming you would bring players like this in as starters expecting them to contribute immediately, which would be delusional indeed. These are depth players. These guys only have to be an upgrade over the 4th or 5th guy on the depth chart at their respective positions to be an upgrade. We all know this team has traditionally had major issues with depth.
Personally, I think Jerome McDougle is a player with a lot of upside even though he wouldn't address a glaring need for us. And it would be tough to argue convincingly that O'Neal wouldn't be an upgrade over Tryon. Anyway, I don't see the harm in questioning if there is any guy out there better than the 53rd man on our roster. |

Re: Good Pick Ups from Cuts!!
By that rationale, there was probably 200 people cut this weekend better than Tryon, many from the Skins, but he's still got a job. Of course, maybe the potential and upside we haven't seen on the field from Thomas and Kelly was them toasting Tryon in practice.
