Re: When Will Jason Taylor Produce???

I want to be patient with this guy...but I think I remember we gave up a 2nd rounder for him....he better have 10 sacks this year or this move will likely be considered a mistake.

EJames on the other hand was a low risk/high reward move, considering his age.
I think this provides him a golden opportunity to beat out Taylor as a situational DE...assuming he can go.

Its just sad to say but, it is very likely that Taylor is a situational end....the exact opposite of who he was supossedly replacing (especially since we already have Wilson and James for passrushing...not to mention the rookie)

Re: When Will Jason Taylor Produce???

I think this stuff about him being washed up, a situational player, is just ridiculous. I thought he was playing well and starting to settle into this defense before the setback with the calf, which was a freak thing. Can we ever just have a little patience?

Why is it very likely? He knee wasn't close to right in the Giants game. In the Arizona/NO games he had a sack and 4 tipped passes combined. No reason to think he can't still kill it when healthy. His calf will continue to improve. I could see his breakout game being against Dan Orlovsky and the woeful Lions in two weeks....

I believe that given his age, the D would get more production from Taylor as a designated pass rusher, playing Evans on obvious running situations to reduce Taylor's workload, and to keep his legs fresh.
Could be a good plan. I still think we need to see Taylor in action once his is back to 100%.

A 2nd and a 6th was given up for a player past his prime who makes a ton of money. People are not going to have patience. Look at the possible gems Vinny and co. found with Horton in the 7th round and Blades in the 6th. Those picks are valuable. Right now it looks like Miami got over on us. But despite having one of the worst pass rushing lines we don't give up a lot of points and that's the bottom line. I'm happy with our defense but not happy with the Taylor trade. We would have been just fine with Evans, Wilson, James and Jackson.

Lets Enjoy this 4-2 start, and if by the end of the 3rd quarter of the season we aren't seeing the newer faces producing then revisit this topic.
272 post and now your setting the agenda for this site? Maybe Matty can make you "Head Moderator Of Thread Topics". LOL

I'd prefer to wait til the end of the season to determine whether JT was worth it or not. Plus, he's going to be back next year, so I think it's premature to be making any hard conclusions about the trade. People were awfully quick to write off Andre Carter as a flop a few years ago.

Maybe people are just bored, I dunno. But there definitely seems to be a lot of nitpicking going on.

We just lost to the worst team in the NFL at home. Of course we're going to nitpick! :-)

I think Jason would be more productive on the right side.

My opinion:
If the man struggles against the run....and that is half of the job of a D end...and if what you are saying is true....it means, he does well in passing "situations".
That is my definition of a situational DE.

I sure hope you are right...but many of us were saying when we picked him up that he is awefully small in combo with Carter on the end...and being in a run heavy division with the cowgirls and the giants...that could be a factor....and if he starts getting injured...like he has been...the best way to keep him healthy is to rotate him to limit his snaps....
To me, its kinda like Jansen vs the pass...just not as radical.

You know his weakness...you know it will be exploited...you need to play him accordingly.

Of course I will give him several more games before I say he is weak against the rush...but, you can't be suprised about this thread based on his size and performance to date.
