When Will Jason Taylor Produce???

I understand that Taylor has had both a sprained knee and a calf injury, but so far, I would argue that the D-line played it's most physical football when he was out against Dallas and Philly. I'm beginning to wonder how much we really needed Taylor when we could have gone to a committee at right DE with Evans and Wilson. On paper, rushing Taylor opposite Carter looked great, but we still don't get the the QB rushing just 4. If anything, sacks are down across the board.

Yeah, and what about E James? Time for the Miami man to get busy.

He has produced, maybe not as much in the sack dept. but he's rushed the passer, deflected some balls etc. then he got hurt.

I don't think Jason will be any different then he is now. I think expectations were a little to high going in.

When he is on the field, he produces. He's not going to be a superstar for us, but he has as many sacks as anyone else on the team. I think he is better then Evans and Wilson.

Agree? What are your thoughts Souper?

He will be an impact later in the season once he gets back to being 100%
Does anyone know about Erasmus James and his status?!?!

Jason Taylor hasn't been healthy the past two weeks. He isn't the same player he was two years ago but when healthy he is still an top-tier pass rusher. He just needs to be healthy.

Also, I wouldn't anticipate Erasmus James would produce until possibly the latter half of this year if he is completely healthy.

Evans is 30 lbs heavier and DEFINITELY better against the run than Taylor. The Giants went after Taylor with a vengeance in the first game, and Brandon Jacobs seemed to get 6+ yards every time he carried the ball. Taylor should be the best pass rusher on the team, but I just don't see that yet, probably due to the injuries. I believe that given his age, the D would get more production from Taylor as a designated pass rusher, playing Evans on obvious running situations to reduce Taylor's workload, and to keep his legs fresh.

Re: When Will Jason Taylor Produce???

I think he'll produce more sacks once he is fully fit, or at least as fully fit as he'll get mid season. A knee and calf injury are going to reduce his acceleration out of his stance, and even if 90%, he'll not have enough power out of the blocks to breeze past linemen like he's used to. I say give him a bit of time to fully heal before writing him of.

I thought he was on the right track before the calf thing. Gotta give him some time to work back from that.

Ya man he batted 3 balls down against the cards. And he had a sack against the saints. All of which was before that calf injury.

Re: When Will Jason Taylor Produce???

How many threads can we have of "when will [insert new player name here] produce". Our D has been stingy, and our offense is quite good for a new head coach and system; why would anyone be rushed onto the field.
Lets Enjoy this 4-2 start, and if by the end of the 3rd quarter of the season we aren't seeing the newer faces producing then revisit this topic.

Re: When Will Jason Taylor Produce???

Jason Taylor is not the defensive MVP player he once was. He is old for a full time starting DE. At this point in his career he is better suited to be a situational pass rush DE.
Keep the younger and stout Evans in on the other situations.
One thing the Redskins need to evaluate for next season is whether Taylor and his high salary/cap number is worth it for a part time player.

If Taylor still hasn't made one or two game changing plays by the 12th game, that would be hugely disappointing given the hoopla and the high draft pick we surrendered to get him.

Didn't he have 11 sacks last year for a god awful team? I don't think he fell of the map as a full time DE in one season. He's got 24.5 sacks in the past two seasons. He's just knicked up. I think he can still produce at full-time high level.
