Re: If You Ran the Redskins...

Well as far as players go (and I haven't even glanced at free agent possibilities yet) obviously I'd shore up both lines.

Honestly, that's almost all I would do. Bring in 2 good veteran O linemen and really sit down with buges and find out if he wants to be here. If he doesn't I'm not sure where you go for positional coaches next year, given the scheme we're running.

I'd also drop stan hixon, and look at bringing in someone off the pats staff. They get production out of no name receivers and have been for years. Re-sign hall (unless we can trade portis and a #2 pick for that CB from oakland whose name I can't spell or pronounce), make fred davis a #2 TE, and draft running back in an early round regardless of who we have here. (a move we should have made last year)

My draft would be geared toward o line, running back, D-line, and linebacker. I'd trade picks up or down to get impact players at those positions.

I'd stick with Cambell in camp as a starter, but I would keep an eye on brennan and I would make it a point to give him time with the first team offense to see how he fares.

lol firstdown you've been on fire lately buddy, keep it up.

My short list:

replace most of our 6-8 million dollar club members like marcus, ARE, andre carter and maybe even springs.

Marcus is slow and doesnt impact the game much if at all. Honestly, almost anyone we would plug in for him could get easily replace his 30-50 tackles a season.

ARE - the 2 rooks should be ready and we should give them a chance to see what they got.

Andre carter - i admit, ive never liked the guy. always thought his "quietest 10 sacks a year" were not worth what we lose in the run game. now those 10 sack years are 5 sack years. not enough production for a guy making 6-8 mil.

Springs - im not a believer in hall, you guys are. if you believe hall can be a starting corner then id let springs and his 8 plus mil contract go. i like the idea of letting springs go, i just dont like the idea that we can stop searching for a replacement corner b/c he got hall (who might want 70 mil over 7 years!)

I would:

1. Bring humility to my position

2. Hire a President to run all football operations

3. Get out of his way

4. Hold him accountable for the long term health of the team, and replace him if necessary if there is a continual and consistent stretch of sub-par football.

Re: If You Ran the Redskins...

I would:
- be checking with my scouting department, make sure they had a good read on the various line players available.

- listen to VC/JZ about the player moves that are available

- meet with JZ after we are done this season's games (however far we go) and review his goals and coaching personnel. Give him the authority/responsibility to fire-hire his staff to fit his methods.

- authorize the spending needed to bring in competitive talent both on field and coaching

- sit in my owner's box and Scream "YEAH!!!" when we beat our opponents (oh and watch all the cheerleader practices! )

4. Draft an OLB in the first round. (Rey Malauga USC)
5. I agree with you D-Bag359 we need to look for a quality back in the 3rd round to get Portis and Betts some air.
I completely disagree with the Rogers/Hall comment. Hall has hands and that's awesome. We could use it, but he's not as good (at least right now) as a healthy springs or rogers. Rogers has been playing some outstanding football this year and has been much of the reason our D has been as good as they have been. With a none existant pass rush this guy has manned up week after week with the league's elite recievers, often with little to no help, and consistently shut them down. He's a gem.

I would look for a way to trade Portis for picks (like Dallas did with Walker). I know he's dinged up but he's having an MVP season and his value wont get higher. Hopefully they could draft some linemen and begin the process of building this team from the inside out.

I see the Portis situation like Lavar where they could have traded him and got something in return but instead the skins hang on too long, nagging injuries add up, he cant play, Skins get nothing.

rebuild the team starting with the offense and defensive lines. I make it policy to think line first- give me superior lines with average skill position players and we'll win games.

Yeah I can see that. I love clinton but it just may not be a fit here anymore. If we could get a decent value I'd trade him. RBs have been pretty thick lately.

The thing is the owner spends enough $ to ensure the Skins never have a 1-15 season so they will never get a #1 pick so they have to go for numbers of picks instead. Trading CP would get them that volume of picks. The skins are stuck in that region where they will never be terrible and get high picks and they will never be championship caliber because the team is just not built like a championship needs to be.

Re: If You Ran the Redskins...

If I ran the Redskins I would do a few things.

1. I would get rid of VC and get a GM in here. A top tiered GM. Someone of the Tenn, Balt, NYG, Pitts mold. Someone fairly young. We have some decent personel staff so that doesn't mean getting rid of everyone here. We need to have a plan and stick to it. This GM might decide to "see what we got" next year w/ personel and coaching. Let's be patient.

2. Working w/ the new GM, I would try to stockpile some picks. If next years draft class is not too good-which i've heard-we can wait-but we need as many picks as possible.

3. Based on our goals, we decide who to keep and who were paying too much money to. On a short list are ARE and AC. Nobody on our team is uncuttable. Nobody.

4. Assess young FA's...Haynesworth, Gross are options.

Re: If You Ran the Redskins...

1. First and foremost I'd get behind my head coach. The front office needs to have this guys back. He needs to be able to bring in his own guys. He gets 3 full years.

2. As much as I think Vinny sucks like a bunch of rotten assholes, he's tied to Zorn. He gets next year and the year after. I'm going to give him 3 full years too. We need some damn stability around here.

I don't disagree. I think we need to stockpile some picks. The FO needs to make the call as to whether we can be SB Champs w/ this core. If the answer is no, well let's try to build something here. Not saying we should, but if the situation calls for it, i wouldn't be opposted. Or any other player for that matter.

Re: If You Ran the Redskins...

I would at least "shop" Portis to see what we could get. We could possibly fill a couple of positions with what we could get for him. I think it would also send him a message that no one is indispensable. Even if we did'nt make a deal he would get the message. Portis is a warrior, but the Lions couldn't win but so much with Barry Sanders and no one else, and we can't go but so far with the lines we have. With the trades we've made lately, picks are needed badly. I would definitely give Zorn more time to install his offense and put his own staff in place. I'm not saying we should trade Portis for sure, but lets look at our options. As I've said before, winning has probably made it harder to get our rookies in to see what they can do. Winning now with the same guys is doing nothing for our rookies or our future. Was the goal to just make the playoffs or to improve our team? It would be nice to do both, but really, this team is not strong enough to go very far even if we did make the playoffs.

The first thing I would do is hire a quality football guy to run the show for me, then I would kick back in my plush office, count my money and play Madden and Call of Duty all day.

I got back into COD4 again last week. I'm addicted to hardcore deathmatch.

Also, if I were the owner there would definitely be verbage in every contract that would allow me to lay with the players wives in a marital sense if the players did not preform well enough on the field.
