Bertrand Berry would have been a better option.
KI I think you have to ask whether the LDE in our system is charged w/ the task of rushing the passer. From observation the position has always been filled by a high-quality run-stopper, save for the brief and unsuccessful Taylor experiment. Very few LDEs possess the talent/strength/size to be dominant at both clogging the run and rushing the passer... very few. I would just say that it's more likely a nice upgrade at SLB will give us the pass-rush we all want... like Marcus was capable of before he slowed down.

This is GREAT we can finally have the second annual Renaldo Wynn CAR SHOW!

This is a good depth move. I think RW can go one more & provide well needed depth. Come on Daniels sign your offer there's nobody knocking your door down!

Wynn has to be the least athletic DE in the NFL. Why waste time with him when you can give the reps to the younger guys??

Sign Daniels and we're set at DE, for this year at least.

C'mon people... you can't remold a team in a single off-season.
Good signing. Going into the season with only Buzbee, Wilson and Jackson as the second starter and only DE depth would have been idiotic.

Not a huge fan of this move, but I don't think it's harmful. And it's not the coming of the apocalypse

I know what you say has much truth (we really need a good SLB) but, unless our opponents will promise us not to pass on 1st or 2nd down, I think we need a run-stopping LDE who can give us some kind of pass rush. I'm hoping that we sign Daniels because I think he can apply more pressure than Wynn and he is very good at batting down passes at the LOS. Hopefully one of the younger DE's will surprise us this season, but I doubt it.

BTW, we had a poll on whom we would like the Redskins to sign and more people picked Juan Epstein (of Welcome Back, Kotter fame) than picked Wynn.

look, if the young guys step up or we draft a stud DE, he'll be gone. if the young guys don't show up and we draft OL, at least there's a backup plan in place.

just saying, don't knock it - we needed insurance there.

hopefully we can get kendall and daniels and wait out the draft. sucks that crowell and burnett never showed up here though.

Thank God its almost St. Patrick's Day...I need some drinks!!.... Waste of a roster spot, nice guy and good locker room presence ,..blah, blah, blah...but he's done, well actually he never had anything to begin with! I would honestly rather just try Alexander or Gholston at end over Wynn. They cant be much worse.... honestly

I'm trying to not get pissed about all the pissing around here but jeez... give the guy a break. Last year in very limited playing time, not because of health/injury but because he was part of an elite defensive line, he got in on 25 tackles and 2 sacks. In '07 he played even less for NO and got 3.5 sacks - I believe that's about what our starting corp of DEs averaged in sacks last year. Wynn will be a rotational player so he'll be fresh nearly all the time (Blache does a good job rotating all the d-linemen btw) and again he's basically been resting the last couple of years. He's also basically as good as any FA DE left on the market aside from a healthy P. Daniels. Can we stop w/ the bashing now?

Re: Renaldo Wynn Agrees To Terms With Skins

I said that if you could get Wynn and Daniels for the same amount of money that you were paying Daniels or for a little more than that would be a good thing.

You've got two guys for the price of one (if Phillips signs) that know the system and aren't asked to do something they can't, pass-rush. They can get pressure and add Haynesworth to the mix who knows?

We can't rebuild the team in one year. We've gotten younger in some areas and kept depth in others. If we could get Washington back for cheap that'd be good too.

This is a youth movement, make no mistake about it. Even though these guys are older they're not the future of this team and they know it. Daniels and Wynn probably don't have any illusions of SB rings. They want to play out their careers in a good locker room, with guys they know and like, and with a coach they respect. That's why they tried to package themselves for a deal.

As much as people like to bad mouth our team the truth is our defense is bad ass and has been for awhile. Almost every win that we've had over the past few years has been because of the defense with rare exception. If the offense didn't leave the poor bastards out on the field for 3/4s of every GD game, they'd have won a SB or two by now.

These guys will be gone in the next two years or until a younger guy can be brought in. So be it. These guys work hard and you never hear them really mouth off.
