Just because Jansen isn't a QB or WR his loss is discounted by many but he is a key player and best run blocker not to mention team general on the field. One of the big problems is the O line has never clicked and has been shuffled around so much this season so much so there have been no less than 5 different orientations of starters at least.
Could Jansen have made the difference though?... possibly and given the state of the NFC one more win would have put us in strong place for the playoffs but given he was our only major injury problem on the O i think he may have struggled to learn the new system also. I think the biggest problem this year is the fact we were installing a new system with a coach who was showing some ring rust and might not have quite got how much the changes in the NFL effected his system and doesn't quite have all of his guys in place. With the announcement that Ramsey will be starting in 05/06 now says alot, it is the first year in recent memory that I can remeber the Redskins knowing who thier signal caller will be in the following year. The next key announcements will be the signing of Pierce and Smoot and there was an article in the WP that Vinny was being approched by college's as program dirrectors. Could it be Vinny is on his way... and Bobby Bethard seemed to be talking up Gibbs in a recent article. I am against getting a GM per say but maybe I could be convinced. |

Bedlam: I'm not saying Jansen isn't the cornerstone of that offensive line, but our offense has stayed very healthy compared to a lot of other teams. I don't think we can use offensive injuries as an excuse this year, I'm sorry.

Jansen was a key loss no doubt, but as a whole the offense has struggled so I have a hard time saying it's all due to losing one guy.

I'd say an overlooked injury has been Hall's flirtation with handicapped parking status all year. The games we played with Kimrin were close enough that the very poor kickoffs and missed field goals would have been a difference maker - not just on the scoreboard, but in attitude. I'm glad Hall will have time to get healthy for next year, and maybe Chandler can continue to kick well for us this year and make a race of it in training camp.

And don't try to paint the picture that I'm saying injuries are the only reason why this offense has sputtered this year....pay attention! It's contributed...but also having a new system to learn, quarterback problems, Gibbs having to adjust back to the NFL, and inconsistancy with the receivers has contributed. It hasn't been because Joe Gibbs doesn't know how to play call anymore..that's pretty lame not to mention ridiculous! |

Hmmm. No one mentioned the Bailey-Portis trade? Especially when it seems that Betts running style is suited more to Gibbs offense. What a wrench in the gears.

Bailey is getting used like a 3 cent whore this year too, Portis is playing well enough.
Randy Thomas's injury was brief and he played well with it. Samuels has been hurt for two years now, I guess that's the reason our O line was so horrible last year. Him not being full strength killed our pass protection. The other 4 guys didn't really matter. If Coles is hurt that bad, take a seat and let McCants and Jacobs give it a try! I'm sorry, but I simply can't say our offensive problems stem from injury. It'd be nice to be completely healthy, but we're not. Our defense is playing great without key players, why can't our offense score 3 TDS? |

To me it was the Jansen injury, then Brunell's 9 week stink... I mean stint. You should've seen Gibbs in the press conference when he announced Jansen was out for the season. It was like a funeral.
I am glad we'll have Jansen back and Ramsey starting though, along with a pretty much in-tact team returning.

Let's face it regardless of all the thing's this team has gone through this year we would be front runner's for a wild card birth if it wasen't for the officiating in 2 games which absolutly cost us those games, put 2 more games in our win colum and we are playoff bound, we probably wouldn't go anywhere but it would be good experience for this group of skin's.
At this time I would like to thank the official's who have helped bolster our draft status for next year! :headbange |

Why are people still griping about the "Bailey-Portis" trade? I mean what else does he have to do to prove that it was a worth while trade?? Last I looked haveing 1,283 yards and being ranked 3rd in the NFC and 7th out of at minimum 32 RB's is much better than "well enough".
Think about it Bailey would have left no matter what!! And would you rather having T. Candidt(SP) running the ball for us?? Also, who is to say that if we just went with Betts he would have ben healthy this whole season? After all his track record isn't very good when it comes to staying healthy!!

I wanted to trade for Shawn Alexander he was avail. for the right price last year Bailey would have gotten it done, but as you said it's really irrelevant now. |

I think everyone hit the nail on the head........
1. Defense is wonderful even without Arrington......BIG SURPRISE 2. Loss of Jansen.......not only in terms of line play, but big leader in the locker room for the OL..... 3. Poor time management....loss of timeouts needlessly 4. STUPID penalites.....we get a stop and someone had a taunting penalty (it was either Smoot or Taylor)........stupid penalites killed us other games as well. 5. POOR play calling in the RED ZONE......instead of field goals against 49ers...those should've been TDs. 6. Ramsey should have come in sooner............ BUT I think things are starting to turn around.....Ramsey is now throwing more balls DOWN field instead of dink passes (GIBBS MUST'VE READ THIS BOARD _) We have a lot to build on for next season......much better position than many teams including the Cowboys |
