I would bank on one of our rookies putting up better numbers.
HELUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!

Seriously, both of them, Helu and Royster should do very well for Coach Shanahan. Torain, Keiland and the 2 rookies...this looks like an exciting bunch of RBs.

We know Torain can dominate. Keiland was a monster in the Titans game where he had to be the top guy after CP went down. The rookies are coming into what looks like a reincarnation of Shanahan's "Plug-and-Play RB system", where anyone is an instant 100 yd-game rusher just by stepping onto the field.

Actually I don't think the article was Portis taking a shot at the skins other then he thinks he has more in the tank. What player dosen't get dumped by a team thinking they can still play. He actually seemed to talk as if the skins where on the right track.

You're right Matty, not "all" of them though a few names do readily come to mind that have expressed the desire and we know who they are. I just wonder why some form of revenge has to be their motive as if they were done some form of injustice by the Redskins.

Re: Portis Out To Prove Redskins Wrong

I'm not saying he will get 1100 yards, just that he could. Every backup in the league is one play away from becoming a starter. No one is going to sign Portis as a starter but someone will sign him as a backup. I remember LT a couple of years ago was signed by the Jets as a backup and now he is splitting time with Green.

But that's like saying Mark Brunell could throw for 3500 yards at this stage in his career. If he plays enough to put up those numbers, you're going to lose a lot of games because of all the negatives that come along with the attempts it takes to put up that yardage.

I appreciate Portis for everything he did here, but he's finished. He's had a wide variety of injuries over his career, and now he's got the dreaded concussion issue.

Somebody may sign him, but his days of consistent productivity are over and have been for 2 years.

The days of the feature back that plays for a team for 10 years are over. RBs are cogs that you get cheap (only punters & kickers make less $) and run hard for a couple years then find another.

Re: Portis Out To Prove Redskins Wrong

He could still help us as a 3rd down blocking back. That's his strong point. I've always thought that NE would be a good fit, they bring in vets like him for specialized roles. Where he lands might come down to which teams lose RBs to injury.

Re: Portis Out To Prove Redskins Wrong

If the lockout ends and there is a pre-season, CP would get signed to be practice fodder, which is sad because he hates both preseason and practice...

He might make it somewhere as a backup i'm sure, and probably get signed to a 1 year deal at vet minimum. But i dont see it happening due to the fact it is unlikely he would bust his butt in practice just to make the squad, when he at best would be 3rd RB, or practice squad. Portis wont work hard when he is told he is not going to be the starter.

only way he gets 800+ yards this season is if his team (assuming he gets signed), loses 2 runningbacks and he goes up against other teams that has no run defense. Portis' body has betrayed him, he doesnt have that breakaway speed anymore, and he cant break tackles or shake off hits.. I say he's done.

Agreed....Bill Parcells once said: You'll draft 100 RB's before you find one Jim Brown, Walter Payton or Emmitt Smith.

I don't believe that a team will lose because of him. I mean, you put him on a good team like the pats or colts and he isn't hurt them one bit.

I don't think it's something unique to the Skins. Mallet for example said he wants to make Miami pay for not drafting him. Players say this stuff all the time. Randy Moss back in the day wanted to make Dallas pay for not taking him.

Good post. 100% agree.

Agreed. And given his willingness to speak sharply when he was actually still with the team, I would have expected him to one-up Rogers, but this is not just tame by comparison, it's just flat-out tame. Funny to read him talk about his clash with Al and his near concession that Al had a legitimate beef.

Good luck to Portis but finding a suitor in FA might be tough for him. He could possibly only have teams like CIN and BUF interested.

Compound that with the current lockout and he'll have his hands full.
