anyone else notice we started calling a timeout with 7 seconds and the refs let it run down to 5.reminds me of the 79 game in dallas when joey t hit ricky tompson and the refs let the last second run off when we were calling a timeout.dallas always gets the calls in big d.

The clock always seems to tick off a few seconds when a timeout is called, it's just not yesterday. That's something that's always pissed me off.

Yeah I was thinking we MIGHT have had enough time to have thrown a quick out for at least a few more yards. After all, even though the field goal was short, just a few more yards would have made a huge difference!

eh...after the cowboys got accross midfield the redskins stopped blitzing, they were only rushing the front 4 and dropping everyone else into coverage, that is something that they didn't do all day, they should have stuck with the aggressive defense, it was killing vinny-t all day, but they knew the cowboys couldn't settle for 3 so they were trying to stop the big score, sean taylor was just worried about keyshawn on the post...would anyone out there have been worried about the reciever that scored???? (I don't even know his name) taylors young and vinny made a great throw

I dunno, perhaps it just wasn't enough time, we might as well have tried a hail mary... a 57 yard FG with Chandler, forgetaboutit.
I agree. I was screaming for them to run one more play. You know he's not hitting a 57 yarder. Why not try one of those quick outs/slants that they ran 1000 times previously during the game? We had another timeout so the middle of the field was open too. There's a big difference between a 51 yarder and a 57 yarder.

It takes the refs 2 seconds to realize you want a timeout. So, effectively, we would have had to run a play (snap, drop back, throw, catch, go down, and call a timeout) within 2 seconds (to leave 1 second on the clock). Just not enough time.

We could have gone for the FG or the game winning hail mary not both either way it was a long shot. the way the game went though even had we got the tieing FG the Boys would have still gone the length of the feild and won in OT.

I agree the decision to kick a field goal there is indicative of the types of decision's Gibb's has been making this year, his long in pre game warmup's was 49 yards, you have to take a chance at getting that ball closer, or throw it to the end zone, I knew that Chandler's leg isn't strong enough to make that kick, and Gibb's doesn't? That was a Norv decision instead of taking a real chance at winning the game try a long field goal and leave yourself an excuse on why we lost, I almost get the feeling that Gibb's think's we lost that game because of that 1 play by the cowboy's, he's saying the right thing's, it's what he's not saying that's troubling me, and that's his pathetic offense and playcalling which is constantly putting our defense in a very difficult position, I don't hear him saying it's our ineptitude on offense that's killing us, 12 year's out of the game, maybe it's just to much for someone to overcome at his age.

As unlikely as hitting a 57 yard FG is, chances of hitting a hail mary for a TD is even less likely. As others have pointed out, 5 seconds just isn't enough time to get a play off and call a timeout or get out of bounds.
