Re: Pass interference rule change
I THINK that the WR should be 40% liable for interference and the DB 60%. I only give the benefit of the doubt to the WR because they have a right to catch the ball since they are on offense, but come on, how many offensive interference penalties did we see last year?

Re: Pass interference rule change
AND it seems like to be a "good WR" you have to be able to get separation and more often than not, that separation comes from pushing off or doing something else that should warrant an offensive PI call.

Re: Pass interference rule change
The refs use their judgment in 5 vs 15 yard facemask penalties. Obviously, that's not as important in a game as PI, but there is a precedent. I hate the spot of foul rule because it often is the difference in games--I was at the Dallas game in week three and that was utter BS. But you're right about taking down WRs just to save TDs--so maybe the intentional/unintentional thing is the way to go. It puts a lot in the refs hands, but of course, they already have the game in their hands, and this gives them some flexibility on the tough calls. (I doubt it will be changed, given the "open offense" trend...)

Re: Pass interference rule change
Keep the rule as it is now. Put three refs up in the booth who have the ability to view replay. If the on-field ref screws up, the booth refs have the authority to overturn the call on the field. Unanimous vote required to overturn a call. This would work for all calls, not just PI calls.

Re: Pass interference rule change
DCooper: The problem I see with that particular scenario is how long do you normally have before the next play is run? 30 seconds maybe? That's a lot to do in 30 seconds. Three people see a review, agree, overturn, page ref all within a 30 second period? That's tough to do!

Re: Pass interference rule change
Ok it is an upgrade IF there is the judgement thing b/c at least if the two down field just get tangled up there wont be no 45 yard penalty but w/o it i am sure we would see ALOT of PI not to give up a big play
THERE also should be challanges on PI plays and other penalties b/c it skrews everything up. I mean i understand why fumbles that are called incomplete passes can't be challenged but PI seems to me like nothing could go wrong the play would continue if the ball was caught and ran in for a touchdown it doesn't stop like in a case of a dropped ball This is somewhat benificial for the defense for a change THEY SHOULD CHANGE OVERTIME RULES BEFORE ANYTHING!!! |

Re: Pass interference rule change
The PI calls need to be fixed so I'm all for any improvement, whether it's 15-yarders or allowing teams to challenge. I'm sick of the inconsistent PI calls I see every game, especially when we're the ones who get burnt most of the time.

Re: Pass interference rule change
Anyone have any stats on the team with the most defensive PI calls?
