Pass interference rule change
I just heard on cold pizza that they (in the nfl meetings) actively discussing changing pass interference to 15 yard penalties as is done in college ball.
Since we had at LEAST two 45+yard penalties this season, i'm all for it. |

Re: Pass interference rule change
An article on ESPN.com said the Chiefs would be introducing a proposal to roll back the Illegal contact rules they started applying last year and change the PI rules to a 15 yarder instead of the spot foul. It said it would get discussed but go nowhere since the competition commitee loves the increased offense. Usually the owners just follow the advice of the competition commitee.

Re: Pass interference rule change
The rule change I heard was 15 yards for most PI calls but spot foul if the ref determines that it is intentional.
Clayton on ESPN said he did not think the rule would pass as the owners are happy that the stricter calls on contact have resulted in more open passing games. Don't know if this was just his opinion or if he was reporting what owners had said to him. |

Re: Pass interference rule change
It would be nice for us because overall we got more calls agaisnt us than for us, by a long shot. However, our receivers never got past the 5 yard line so it was hard to get a PI called.
I think they should keep it the same but make it challengable. |

Re: Pass interference rule change
I hate PI calls period, they're so subjective and the basis for which they're called seem to change play to play.
All I know is we got royally screwed all season with PI calls going against us, and blatant non-calls. You definitely can't change all PI calls to 15 yards, otherwise corners will be interfering all the time on deep balls, the penalty wouldn't be severe enough. How are they going to determine what's intentional and what's not?? Refs have a hard enough time as it is now, I think this would only add to the mess that is pass interference. |

Re: Pass interference rule change
I dont see them making it a 15 yard rule, because if I was covering randy moss and he had me beat I would just push him to the ground if the risk was only a 15 yard penalty. Having pass interfearence calls forces you to cover a receiver without hitting them, and if you do theres a huge consequence. Two minute drills espesiclly would be so much different, you would tell your players to foul them.

Re: Pass interference rule change
How about making them 15 yarders inside 15 yards and spot fouls down field? I like making them reviewable but if they are reviewable then they should add a challenge to the mix becasue now we're adding a major chunk of plays to the reviewable list and it seems unfiar to make things reviweable but only allow teams the same amount of reviews a game. If they want the game to be decided by the players they should give more reviews. I like having 2 but make a caveat that you get a minimum of the two. If you don't get one over turned then you can continue to challenge until you do. That makes teams ensure that the call was incorrect. Inconclusive should not count as an overturn. Teams shouldn't suffer because the camera has a bad angle.

Re: Pass interference rule change
I honestly feel if the ball is thrown 40 yards down field and the WR is interferred with then the ball should be spotted at the foul. It justs makes sense. But make them reviewable to ensure the moron officials don't continue to have too much sway.
