Re: Turner Reflects on Coaching Redskins
I always liked Norms for his ideas, he just was not a good leader of men. Having a head strong guy like Snyder take over had to have made his tenure miserable.

Re: Turner Reflects on Coaching Redskins
the redskins had great offenses under turner, and awful defenses.if you offense scores 50 points a game, but your defense gives up 55,you ai'nt winning many games.i think that snyder made a HUGE mistake firing turner when he did though.he should have let him coach the rest of the year.

Re: Turner Reflects on Coaching Redskins
I still wonder what would have happend if Snyder didn't go on that famous spending spree. Norv is right, we did have a nice core on offense, we had BJ throw for over 4000 yards that year, Connell and Westbrook were both 1000 yard WRs, Davis ran for over 1400 yards.
If Snyder would have just left well enough alone, and maybe make a few additions to bolster the D, who knows, perhaps we could have turned a corner in 2000 instead of imploding. |

Re: Turner Reflects on Coaching Redskins
I honestly agree with Norv Turner, I think we were heading toward having a team that was taking the next step up the latter. We barely lost a playoff game that could have gotten us into the NFC championship in that one playoff season...and like Turner said, I believe we had a good nucleus of young players. Sure, it took us forever it seemed to finally get the team winning again, but let us not forget that a couple years prior to that season, the Redskins were 8-1 before the defense collapsed. To this day, I will still believe that if Snyder had not went on that spending spree, Turner's team could have went further. Water under the bridge now though...but I will always respect Turner and think if Al Davis gives him a chance, he'll turn the Raiders around (even though I HATE the Raiders!)

Re: Turner Reflects on Coaching Redskins
Theres no question that the team was in better shape under Turner before the spending spree than after. My only point about Norv is that he had 8 years so he has no right to make a peep. We can all talk amongst ourself the Snyder f-ed up and the team was in better shape under Norv before the spending spree, but I just don't want to hear that from Norv himself. He has no right...8 f-ing years for crying out loud.

I don't know, I have to humbly disagree...I think he had every right to say what he said. Yeah, it took him a long time, but he got the team winning again and as soon as he accomplished that, the team pretty much got dismantled and in effect, Norv lost his job. I didn't really find anything in that interview that indicated Turner was bashing the Redskins....I didn't even see anything that indicated he was bashing Snyder. Heck, Turner said exactly what we all knew....there was no reason to break up that team and sign all these over the hill big name players. That was pretty much the truth....and hopefully Snyder has seen the error of his ways (as it appears this off-season) and he's learning how to be an NFL owner. Norv has a head coaching job again and I wouldn't doubt that Turner will have some success in Raiderland. Might take him 8 years though...LOL

I still don't understand what is so bad about what he said. He could easily bash the Skins and Snyder from head to toe, especially with the way he was treated at the end. If you want to pick on an ex-coach who likes to talk trash about the Skins every chance he gets, just look at Mike Nolan. |

Re: Turner Reflects on Coaching Redskins
Oh god Mike Nolan...he is the perfect example for the argument that players win not coaches. In DC witht eh Redskins talent he was the worst defensive coordinator i ever saw and then he goes to Baltimore with Ray Lewis and Ed Reed and he is suddenly a genious again. I can't wait to see him fall on his face again...

Re: Turner Reflects on Coaching Redskins
mike nolan, talk about a bad hire, romeo from the patriots was worth waiting for, it's easy to look good with ravens "d" , just like norv with with dalas's offense, norv's team time and time again showed up to big games unprepared emotionally and mentallyy, how many games , big ones did they show up flat to under him. yes he should have finished the year but had his chance and it he was not i repeat not a good head coach, he never brought the team together, and in that tampa bay game he waited til the end to use hicks as flqare back out of the back field and drove down the field. it was there all game. i know a raider fan and he's groaning over norv and wants him gone.
