"Wow. In one of the most impressive displays by any linebacker in recent years in Indy, this quite frightening athletic specimen racked up 34 reps (more than all but one on defense) and ran 4.5 dead. If you want to talk about workout warriors, McCune’s your man, and his stock will surely soar after this stellar performance. "

I saw this guy about a month and a half before the draft on NFL network, they talked about how one player in the draft had lots of life experience, they said mccune was a strong power house and he said his favorite players were Lewis and LAVAR ARRINGTON. At that time i was talking to a friend on the phone and said that he would be a good player to have on the team. I never expected anymore after hearing that he was gonna go in the 3rd or 4th rounds. I didn't follow up on him after that but then when we picked him I instantly recognized the name but didn't know from where, after looking it up I relized it was the player I had liked a month ago.

second most reps on defense. who was number 1? anyone know?

I think our coverage units on special teams will be AMAZING.

Look at the site, rogers and mccune were listed as winners at the combine, this i believe is before the draft and it is unbiased. 10 winners were listed. ROGERS RAN A 4.35 I think people forget that, he is faster than smoot and if he gets used as well as everyone else is in this defense there will be no stopping him.
Everyone in our defense gets to use their strengths, and really most were average players at best before this year, Rogers is a top 10 pick and his strengths will be used to their fullest.
Mccune is gonna get used with his speed and strength.
IF! mccune was to start we would look like this, arrington mccune washington. All of them run in the 4.5s

AND McCune is a BEAST. I love hearing how he's like a "World's Strongest Man" but with speed.

I heard the only downside to him is that he isn't as agile as he is fast and strong.

Thats what we need at MLB when we play iggles. We need coverage and speed on westbrook coming out of the backfield as a reciever. Westbrook is a speedy, shifty little bastard.

He would be great on running down and as a blitzing linebacker. What QB can we retire this season? (Nobody say Brunnel....)

It's early, but I actually think the MLB depth chart probably looks like this:

#1 Holdman
#2 Marshall
#3 McCune
#4 Campbell
#5 Smith

When healthy, Holdman is pretty darn good at OLB and he's supposedly pretty smart. Marshall probably will see time at MLB, but his size probably means he'll only be in 1-3 downs per series. McCune has all the measureables, has a great work ethic, and will probably be a great special teams player, but he's going to need a year in the league to be a difference maker on defense. Between Campbell and Smith, I'd bet that Campbell will be on the roster (since he's such a valuable special teamer) and Smith will be cut or put on the practice squad simply because we can't have 5 MLBs.

Not to nitpick, but Rogers ran a 4.45.

BTW, Manuel Wright only put up half the number of reps on the bench press and he's a defensive tackle.

Time to play Devil's Advocate.

People are getting way too excited about McCune. Every report I have read about him suggests that although he is a great physical specimen he isn't a natural football player and the NFL scrapheap is full of guys like that. His performance at the combine is always getting rave reviews, saying how much bigger, stronger and faster he looked compared to the other guys there, but as he was 3 or 4 years older than everybody else it would have been surprising if he didn't stand out. Right now I put him at the bottom of our LB depth chart and personally I expect him to stay there.

I only wrote what was on that site but these other sites also say 4.35. I also didn't think he was THAT fast

Here are others that aren't 4.35s

From NFL.com
http://www.nfl.com/draft/story/8242024
"Brace yourself: Eleven players ran for times of 4.40 and under! Eleven! Of the 11, six ran for times of 4.35 and under! Those six young men are Arizona State's Chris McKenzie (4.31), Auburn's Carlos Rogers (4.31), Houston's Stanford Routt (4.34), Nebraska's Fabian Washington (4.31), Oklahoma State's Darrent Williams (4.31) and Stanford's Stanley Wilson (4.34). All six of these guys worked out as cornerbacks, so that is a very promising sign for the future of NFL cover corners."

NFL Says 4.31? must not be at the combine but damn if that is true

Good points Davy. In a certain sense, I agree that people are getting way too excited about McCune; measureables are only 1/2 the battle - the intangibles are what really matter. And let's not forget, McCune was a 5th round pick, not the 5th overall pick.

However, beyond his incredible strength and blazing speed, McCune has a reputation for being a guy with tremendous character with a work ethic to match. Additionally, teammates at Louisville raved about the McCune both as a player and as a person. Moreover, McCune loves to play special teams and his presence there will likely be immediately felt.

Basically, McCune has the character, work ethic, and physical potential to become a stud. If his "football smarts" ever come close to matching his raw talents, he'll be a force. A reason to believe in his future with the team is that we have among the best defensive minds on staff to tutor him.

My bottom line, albeit early, prediction: McCune becomes racks up the most tackles on special teams in his rookie season, cracks the defensive lineup in his sophomore season, and becomes a solid starter by the third and final year of his contract.

i don't want that ramseyfan. what you said about him becoming a solid starter by the third and final year of his contract, it makes me wonder if he's another antonio pierce. what if he does start his third season, i don't want him to bolt for another team for more money.
