That's the biggest problem. There is no apparent accountability. It seems like the NFL just has no desire the try and help these guys make the right initial calls. There are hundreds of calls/no-calls in a game. Heck there are 10 or so on every play so I don't expect them to be perfect. But I do expect them to at least give the impression that they are working to make these refs better. In this league one play can change an entire season. One play can mean the difference between playoffs and not. In the other major sports there are more calls to be made and that reduces the effect of a single call/no-call on a season. In football when a call loses a game for you it costs you 1/16th of your season. That'd be like one missed called in a baseball game losing you 10 games! Or 5 in basketball or hockey. I actually wonder whether the issue is more with the refs or whether the rule book is simply too complicated or perhaps too insufficient to govern games. It seems like there is little common sense to some rules. I am just tired of thinking "well if we had done this in the game or if they had been able to make this happen or IF THE REFS HADN'T blown this call then we probably would have won." That last part needs to get reduced.

I don't think it is policy to make that information public except in extreme cases like the initial tuck rule game where the ref made the correct ruling and they backed him up. Basically only in situations where they need to publically support a call or apologize for public relations reasons.

Where was our apology for miscalling Alstott's 2 point conversion in the TB game?

Good question. Or last year's Packers game. Or the fumble by Jordan on the goal line in the Raider's game. Or the botched off side call in the in the TB game. Of the botched calls in Philly last year. Just to name a few. We have had quite a number of calls that had big negative impacts against us in the last two years. It's probably because we are losing so many close games so these missed calls get magnified to us but it seems like we have a hex or something on us when it comes to refs. It is tiresome.

They apparently don't feel the need to offer apologies to the Skins and their fans. Makes you wonder why.

Don't forget the bad forced-out call against us in the TB game!

It really does - I picked the Alstott call because there is no disputing that it cost us the game. However, you are right that we just don't seem to get any respect from the league.

[conspiracytheory]Perhaps the league resents Snyder's financial success with the Skins?[/conspiracytheory]

Re: Santana Moss Personal Foul

The pencil-necked geek of a referee yesterday made some really bad calls. The 15 yard penalty on Santana was one. The 15 yard personal foul facemask on Sean Taylor was another. The holding call on Samuels was another BS call. Just to name a few.

Re: Santana Moss Personal Foul

The referees, as they do every week in every game around the league, made some mistakes.

However, I propose that we enjoy our win and don't let the refs spoil this day. It's nice to finally not let the referees' bad calls decide the outcome of a game for us.

That seems like a silly rule. What's the point of an apology if it's not public? The call was public, so the apology should be as well!

Yeah I dont have a huge problem with it...its one thing to complain to the ref, but Santana was pretty overheated. All in all I think not a huge deal. And at least he didnt get a personal foul for "An unnatural act not common to the game" which is certainly my all time favorite penalty call!

Re: Santana Moss Personal Foul

in the chat room before the flag was thrown i said moss shut the hell up and right then the ref threw a flag. he deserved it, i am very homertastic and i do think he deserved that penalty. He went absolutly insane, justified it may have been but damn. He is lucky it didn't cost us the FG or i would be completely pissed at him. He could get a lot done by telling the ref look. He wasn't gonna change anything because this isn't basketball. The refs don't say well i messed up here so i will help them out there as they do in the NBA. He accomplished nothing but making an ass out of himself. I am glad he really cares so much but he should have shut his mouth

I understand people questioning the Moss one, but the ST facemask was a pretty bad facemask. I can't see that getting an apology.

I think every call against the redskins all season long are part of a league-wide conspiricy against the skins. If it wasnt for the refs the skins would be 12-0.
