In terms of my Washington fandom, there have been plenty of times when the team has sunk to the lowest (firing Marty, getting rid of B. Johnson, Spurrier, Zorn, Vinny, Bruce Allen, etc., etc.) where I could have stopped being a fan. I feel like if I didn't stop being a fan for those awful episodes, a stupid name change is not going to change my mind. I do agree like many that my level of enthusiasm is low, despite continuing being a fan. And my approach to this team has always been to expect the worst and hope for something okay.

Re: Welcome your Washington Commanders
My approach to watching sports has changed over time as I got older. I used to live and die with how my team did. Now I approach sports like a movie, if the good guys (my team) win that's good, if the bad guys win but there's a good plot (a close action packed game) that's ok too.

Things were much more interesting and exciting during that 4 game win streak. We were fans of an actual football team for a month! The second the skins start winning again and being relevant ... im back to yelling, screaming and streaking. |

This organization through the years has used him as a pawn. They always trot him out there for PR things or to make the organization look good, but what is his role at this point? Has he ever had a prominent role in the organization? Not really. When they need him to make them look good here comes Doug. It's sad if you ask me. They know Doug's untouchable in this town and they use him because of it. He was demoted when Ron was hired. Why? Dan could have given him the GM job many times but didn't. Instead he had Bruce Allen? Vinny Cerrato? A overrated drunk? SMH And that crap last week on Today was just awkward and sad. As far as Wright is concerned, I'm happy when black men and women get a shot in a position of power in the NFL. However part of his job is to take the heat for the owners. I'm not buying that Jason is stupid enough to put that fucked up looking patch out there. Or those crappy uniforms. I would be willing to bet that is mostly Tayna. I doubt Dan would got that far away from the uniforms. Jason has to take the heat for that. The over under on Jason imo is 3 years and I am taking the under. He's playing w/ snakes. And yes, Doug, Jason and Allen all tow the company line. They're all company men because that is what they get paid to do. |

Re: Welcome your Washington Commanders
Riggins is obviously his own man, but it makes you wonder how many other former players feel the same way.
I don't remember him complaining when they were the WFT, maybe I missed that. |

Re: Welcome your Washington Commanders
Some people just want attention. I'm so sick of this bitching and moaning about the name change. Get over it people.

Re: Welcome your Washington Commanders
Did the Ravens sell Jerseys of Jim Brown before Cleveland started a team again? Do the Titans sell Warren Moon or Earl Campbell jerseys?

It's still the same franchise, whether it was the Braves, Redskins, Football Team, or the Commanders. |

Re: Welcome your Washington Commanders
The point is that no other team is dealing/has dealt with a situation like Washingtons. The team has not relocated, and the name change was essentially forced. I would have preferred that maybe they just offered some throwback like jerseys for the legends (i.e. no logos) but I can't fault them for trying to tie in some legends to this new brand.

Snyder clearly has no problem milking the legacy of Redskins greats. I’m tired of seeing Doug and Joe Gibbs trotted out to validate some new bullshit. I suspect that Riggins is also tired of this bullshit. |
