Re: Portis Interview on Fox

Portis has the kind of personality that sometimes get's him in trouble with the things he says. He does not always take into consideration the repercussions that may follow his comments, and when they're polarized he's caught off guard. (see his comments about Michael Vick) I was hoping after that episode he had learned to temper his statements, because whatever he says is more likely to be magnified.

Had we won the game yesterday (despite his fumble) we probably would not be talking about this anyway, but that's life when you lose, everything becomes bigger than life.

Re: Portis Interview on Fox

he isn't holding out of practice because of arrogance... he has legitimate health issues that should be forcing him out of the game, but he's still playing. He's puttin forth effort just playing on game day. He probably should be sitting out... everytime he comes out of the game he limps... that should show you something.

I think he and gibbs aren't making too much of the injury because they don't want people keying in on it when he's playing.

This is whole thing is being blown way out of proportion. Portis is a team player, a leader and someone every team in the league would like to have on their team. He has already done everything you could ask of him and if it takes 9 hours a day to get the job done then that's all he needs to put in. Period!

While we're speculating... a few months back my son was putting together a fantasy football team and asked me about adding CP this year. I told him between the two Washington backs, I'd take Betts over Portis in the long run. He asked why and I told him if the tendonitis is a legitimate health concern, it will become a greater factor in his playing time as the season wears on, and you may see more and more of Betts as a result. It could be possible that his tendonitis is flaring up again and he's trying to play through it.

I guess that we forget that he has had knee issues from the begining of training camp which has limited his time on the practice field. What do we want him to do go out and wear his knee out durn the week so its in worse shape come Sunday?

Portis does not look ready to play a full 60 minutes of football and be the guy to carry this team . . it could be b/c of his injuries, which leads to his lack of practice and game-shape conditioning and the huge injuries to our O line do not help . . .then sprinkle on top alil bit of gibbs saying "our backs are interchangeable" and portis coming into this season saying he has to prove the doubters wrong or he wont be here next year and perhaps just maybe that competitive guy who once wore a heavyweight champ belt around his waist on the sideline in denver isnt so competitive and 110% into it anymore . . . i dont know, but i do know we need him to step up more than ever right now or start giving betts 15-20 carries b/c hes the type of runner that needs to pound the Dline for a few quarters and get warmed up.

In terms of fantasy football, that's not very good advice. Fantasy football is all about yards and touchdowns. In a typically scored league, Portis probably has somewhere around 60 points on the season, while Betts has a little over 10 points.

And even if Betts begins to get the bulk of the carries, he still can't get in the endzone. He's not a good fantasy back unless both your starters aren't playing for some reason.

Hmmm, not to sure he is getting the job done? He has yet to have a 100 yd game (o-line issues?) Constantly goes out of the game with a tweaked knee or ankle. Has put the ball on the ground at CRITICAL times this year.

Just like a previous post stated, WINNING cures everything and that isn't happening right now losing 2 of the last 3 to NFC teams.

Re: Portis Interview on Fox

I also think there's something going on in the Portis situation that is not just the obvious.

Watching The Redskins Report (Saturday Night) with Jurgenson, Michael, and Wilbon, the subject of Portis came up. Riggins made reference to the fact Portis has the freedom to take himself out of the game when he so desires, and that it would not have been tolerated during Gibbs -1. I recall last year, before Portis was injured there were some concerns about this particular issue.

It's has become evident there is some form of conflict between Gibbs, Portis, and Saunders because the latter has made it known it's difficult for him to stay on the game plan when a player can take himself out at any point in the game. It is my belief that Saunders would like to use Betts more, but of course Gibbs swears by Portis. It's something they need to get worked out.

Re: Portis Interview on Fox

What is the life span of an NFL RB? Has Portis already peaked? Is he on the way down? If he wants to continue to be a play maker on this team he better start stepping up. I am not going to apologize for CP? It is all about winning and right now CP is not helping the team win, he has hurt the team more than help the team since the beginning of last year. Blame it on injuries if you want or blame it on proper strength and conditioning if you want. The bottom line is he is not helping the team and if he doesn't start to produce soon I would have to think he has already peaked and the team should look at other RB options.

Re: Portis Interview on Fox

I wonder if the fact that the RT and RG are backups has anything to do with the decline in CLinton's #'s? Betts isn't exactly getting it done either. Everybody knows Wade can't run block. Give Clinton a complete, healthy O-Line and see what he does.

Edit: NM. I should learn to read the entire thread b4 I post lol. Somebody already posted exactly what I said.
