Portis Interview on Fox
Did anyone see the interview with Portis on Fox before the game yesterday?
They were talking about how Jason Campbell puts in so much overtime at the training facilities. Portis was asked if he puts in that much overtime and he said, "After 9 hours it is not in my contract to put in anymore time' That pissed me off! If Portis was playing half as good as Campbell then he could brag about what his contract says but right now he is not earning his paycheck. |

I think it's known that CP is not one of the hardest working guys on the team. He saves it for game day. I would say most NFL teams have guys like CP. Problem here is when you start putting the ball on the ground and you lose then everything gets brought up.

Exactly. If CP was peforming well then I would careless what he does in practice but he is not helping the team at all right now.

Re: Portis Interview on Fox
That doesn't bother me, because Portis does come to play on Sunday. He's usually our best RB at picking up blitzing LBs, so he must be doing something right in the film room.
I love the fact that Campbell is the hardest working guy on the team. That bodes well for his ascension among the elites at QB. I said this on another thread, and it bears repeating - trading up to snatch Campbell will prove to be the most significant personnel decision of Gibbs 2.0. |

Re: Portis Interview on Fox
Doesn't bug me, Portis plays harder than anyone else on Sunday, that's what I care about. He gives 100% when he is on the field every single time. Plus Portis says things trying to be funny and it comes off as him being arrogant at times but I think it's in good fun.

I don't know what is going on with Portis. He must be battling through something personally in his personal life or with football. It must have something to do with his injury. Whatever it is (and easier said than done), he just needs to persevere and work through this stuff.
On a side note, I wonder what he was trying to talk to Gregg Williams about on the sideline. |

Portis needs to concentrate on becoming a better running back and worry less about running his mouth right now. When you are winning you can run your mouth but when your are losing then you need to focus on practice and the games. |

Re: Portis Interview on Fox
Portis seems to have a very ho-hum attitude this year. I think Aikman is absolutely right in his assessment that something isn't quite right with Portis health wise. I don't know if he has a bruised knee or a bruised ego (having to share time), but something just isn't there IMO.

We already have one RB with fumble issues (Betts), now Portis too. This Arizona game is MASSIVE. I'll tell you what, I'll be starting the Redskins D in my fantasy league if Tim Rattay starts for AZ....

Many people thought Spurrier's negative remarks about coach's working 100 hours a week kind of cool. All went well with his light work schedule, and his reported golf days during the season, until we sucked. If you need more work (and maybe the way Portis carries the ball needs work), maybe you should put in the time. I love CP, and the guy is a total football man. I think he will get it done. This (as has been pointed out) may not be the best time to brag about short work days. Judgement call on his part, and his judgement on such "media" matters, has not been all that good.

Don't get me wrong I am not a Tiki Barber fan but it is a good example of what Portis needs to do. |

Re: Portis Interview on Fox
CP's comments don't really bother me. As we all know CP will say about anything. He is not out of shape and i'd venture to say that he is a hard worker, you don't get to his level by taking it easy. There's nothing wrong w/ working hard and having a life too.
He's also an established RB and i think it requires a little less "studying" than a first time NFL quarterback that has a lot of little things to work on. CP doesn't have a history of fumbles so I'm not concerned. He probably won't have another all year. I'm sure he feels bad enough for it not to happen again. |

CP practiced two days in a row for the first time since last year just recently. He is playing terrible and needs to put in some more work on his game. Maybe because I am in the local area I hear more of the stories about how Portis does not work hard on the practice field. I am just getting tired of hearing about it while his playing sucks. |
