Re: Did Gibbs 12-Man Challenge Make Up 4 The Timeout In Buffalo?

12 men on the field is one of the rare plays that can be challenged even if the officials didn't originally catch it.

In my local paper today, Gibbs was quoted as saying that "a bunch of guys in the booth" were saying that the Vikings had 12 men on the field, so the credit has to go to the staff in the booth for catching it. Gibbs doesn't have access to the equipment necessary to spot it himself.

So I would say that if anyone atoned for the blunder against Buffalo, it's the staff in the booth who didn't inform Gibbs of the double-timeout rule. They made up for that last night in a big way.

Childress complained of having to be allowed to substitute players. Madden, I think, said as long as the offense substitutes a person then the Defense can sub in as well. During the quick snap/fumble/12-man-on-the-field play, did the Redskins sub in a player? I don't think so but I didn't record the game to check.

I think both calls were not his initally. Obviously someone in the booth saw the 12th man and brought it to his attention. As far as the time out, I don't know for sure (and am sure you guys will let me know) but I can't believe Joe would make that kind of a mistake. He took the heat but just can't believe he would make that kind of a mistake.
I am with a previous poster...the Buffalo game is in the past. Last nights challenge took the wind out of the Vikings sails and locked up a game for the ages against the Cow-wussies.

The TO call was definitely his - he owned it in the presser after the Bills game. No chance this challenge was his call (someone else obviously noticed the extra player running off the field), but I'll give him credit for getting it out there quickly.

The Skins didn't sub.

then there is an illegal substitution, which is still a penalty, but I don't know if it's challenge-able.... maybe that was what he was arguing.

Whether it atoned for the past miscue or not, it was a beautiful call that completely deflated our opponent. You could see the frustration all over their sideline and it was one of those challenges that quickly switched the momentum back to us and gave us a second breath.

we really stuck it in their ass and broke it off, didn't we

I figured he got help from the booth but it was in his hands to make that call & throw that red flag. Big props to the booth & gibbs.

gibbs had nothing to do with the call, he just did what he was told, and looked lost as he usually does these days.

anytime something goes wrong, like an extra timeout or bad clock management or a bad decision on a play call or an attempted fiel goal or whatever, who always gets blamed? Gibbs does, sometimes deservedly so but sometimes undeservedly, so i say he should get all the credit for throwing the red flag to challenge the 12 men on the field, if people are gonna blame him for all the bad things, then those same people need to praise him for the good things.

All I said was that he wasn't the one who noticed it - somebody else was advising him. I'm pretty sure Gibbs even said that was the case. It's his call to do (or not do) anything someone advises him about. Again, I give him all the credit for acting on the advice quickly (which is a big part of what great coaches need to do).

my comments were not directed towards you specifically onlydarksets but more toward those who always bash gibbs when things goe wrong but refuse to give him credit when things go right
sorry for the misunderstanding.

merry christmas.

Apparently credit should go to QC coach Billy Khayat and Assistant Video Coordinator Todd Davis for spotting the 12 men and sending a video still down to the field right away
