Re: Plus and Minus for First Exhibition Game
Taped the game and just finished watching most of it.As everyone has said run blocking continues to be a problem,sucked last yr and continues to suck,is Joe Bugel still alive?{Cause we need something}
I think Jones will be ok but I'm not sold on any 2nd string rb's,but with that blocking it was hard to tell.I dont count any rb performance in 2nd half, dont mean shit then.I really wanted us to sign Arian Foster but too late now,we will see. Cousins looked good,Mccoy looked good, especially on that pass to davis that he dropped right in his hands. What surprised me the most about that play was it looked like davis was shot out of a cannon,I didnt know he had that kind of speed left in him. I was glad to see robinson for ATL have a good game{even though it was against us,preseason]He should hold a special place in skins fans hearts for the Thanksgiving game against Dallas.

Re: Plus and Minus for First Exhibition Game
Toler, Philipps and Grant had decent games also. Cravens is going to be a star, really liked what I saw.

Well of course, he's from the west coast.

They were all passive in the run game. I went back and watched it again. Moses swallowed people up with his long arms in pass rush but he was terrible run blocking as well. It always seems like the Dline are the aggressors on the running plays and our guys are sitting there waiting to engage. Go back and just watch the running plays, they aren't moving anyone. I get zone plays are not always moving forward but we are always getting pushed back. First, do you all agree that we look passive? Second, are they being coached this way? If so, why? With our big guys firing into somebody, Jones should be able to fall forward for 4 yards. They aren't moving anyone.

Trade a DB (and a pick if you have to) to get a good one. The notion that they do not need a running game is ridiculous. |

Re: Plus and Minus for First Exhibition Game
How about we give our current RB's a chance before panicking.

Re: Plus and Minus for First Exhibition Game
Ha, nice. No one is out for the season after pre season week 1. I agree, great week.
Man, if Junior didn't get hurt, with the way Preston is looking we would be beasting. Time to draft another rusher in the 1st few rounds next year. Find another Preston SM.

Re: Plus and Minus for First Exhibition Game
I'm a FSU fan so I hope Thompson is our 3rd down back for the next 5 years or so.
I think once Marshall gets his feet wet in the NFL that he will push Jones or outright take the starting job from him. He got Gurley'd in college. He is like a young boxer. He just needs to get more rounds under his belt.

Re: Plus and Minus for First Exhibition Game
This. Let's get our full blocking battery together on the field with our RB rotation before we freak out. If Lauvao can stay healthy, we will be a better running team than last year.
Keith Marshall looked like a rookie the other night...to no surprise. Let him learn the game...I bet he will improve as the preseason continues. Let's all take a chill pill or a bong hit and relax

Re: Plus and Minus for First Exhibition Game
you need two good RBs.... I will give them another game or two. Everyone has focused on Jones fumbling problems, even if he has solved the problem, he averaged 3.4 ypc . Hardly a rookie season worthy of being handed the #1 RB position.

Re: Plus and Minus for First Exhibition Game
Jones and Marshall didn't get many touches, tough to judge them on that. Jones had a good run called back on a penalty, had another decent run and was grabbed by one leg by Weatherspoon and pushed back.

Re: Plus and Minus for First Exhibition Game
Chance, Schmantz! None of the younger players besides Jones is ready to carry the load.
Nobody is freaking out about the RB's. They're just telling the truth which is that our RB's are not a strong group. Matt Jones needs a solid backup and that person is not yet on the team. I think we're going to be forced to pick up a veteran RB who can help us get through this season. It seems to me that the right mix would be Jones, a veteran pickup, Thompson (3rd down), and one of the young RB's.

Re: Plus and Minus for First Exhibition Game
Thomas is more of a receiver than a runner. He had 52 yards rushing last year.... he is not the answer. There will be some decent running backs cut in a few weeks.
