I can dig it... Just hope it carries over into the season. I live in NY so when we loose to the Glee-men, they really put me through it up here.

Now that's not to take anything away from Beck, who I'm still not sure is our opening day starter over Grossman. Beck did nothing last night to make me truly doubt him. But I'm totally a beckliever? Not yet. I didn't really see him get challenged too much (granted it's a preseason game against the Colts) and while he had nice stats I didn't see what he did that really stood out from what Rex did the week before.

I guess at the end of the day, I didn't walk away from last night's game excitedly thinking this is definitely the guy for us. At the same time, I didn't leave it worried he might be either.
He really didn't do anything that stood out. Fortunately for him an uncompromising adherence to a simple game plan made managing the game easier for him executing short passes mixed with a strong running game. There's much more I want to see from Beck, especially the ability to get the ball downfield and demonstrating he has to ability to bring a team from behind.

IMO Grossman's start was better than Beck's start.

Beck has more upside and is the better choice.

The way I see it is that we did a pretty good job in the first and second series in the past two games against most of the starters from the opposing team. In previous preseason games when this happened, we looked like crap and committed the same mistakes that we would see during the regular season.

It is good to see do a good job in the past two games, it is better than having them come out versus the first-teamers and completely screw up. I don't think this screams championship or anything like that, but it is good to see progress.
Your wrong my friend. James Harrison at the start of the game was listed in the starting lineup, yes, but he didn't play, at the last moment the steelers felt they don't want to risk anything with his recent surgeries. Jason Worilds played in place of James Harrison for almost the whole first half. I've watch the game twice now; believe me he didn't play (I even want to say that Theismann said something like 'now the steelers may be without Harrison, but still the redskins Offense...).

As for the colts, you're right Tommie Harris did Not play. Antone Bethea only played two snaps after he got injured chasing down hightower, also the colts starting OLB Ernie Sims didn't play. Something else to throw out there.

Welcome aboard the Hightower bandwagon. If he doesn't get hurt, this kid is going to be very good!

Re: How far can Beck take us?

For anyone who ever got a good laugh out of the Cris Carter thread....

You are right warriorzpath, we all must have been wrong about your heartfelt diatribe:

From ESPN NFC bEast blog -
"A preseason game can have value for a team like the Redskins. No, the result doesn't matter. And no, you can't assume they'll look as good in real games as they have so far in two fake ones. But think about where the Redskins are right now. Nobody thinks they're any good. Everybody thinks they'll finish last. They've got people saying they could be the worst team in the league (which I seriously doubt). And while they can pretend they don't hear it, they all have the internet, and cable TV, and AM radio in their cars. And even if they don't pay attention to any of that stuff, they all have friends and relatives who undoubtedly keep them posted on it. But world-class professional athletes aren't inclined to doubt themselves, and having success -- even if it's on a micro level in a game that doesn't count -- is the kind of thing that can bolster confidence internally when nothing's happening to bolster it externally. This is two weeks in a row that the Redskins peeled the tape off their ankles and went home feeling good about themselves. And a team that's going to be an underdog in the majority of its games this season can benefit greatly from knowing what it's like to feel that way. "

Re: How far can Beck take us?

IF Beck s hows us some good stuff against the Ravens I am game for him starting Sept 11 vs the Gmen, unless Rex also comes out strong. I would start Beck against the Ravens to see if he can up his game, then start Rex the last game.

Let's see what happens in the next two games.

But if I were Shanny and I had to choose right now, I'd choose Beck. He was solid if unspectacular. But when Rex threw his pick I covered my face and prayed that he would not be the starter - same old Rex. So, by elimination, it's Beck.

I really like Beck's mobility and his quick release.

But he struggles with the long ball. What happens when defenses stack the box and take away the short to intermediate throws?

Re: How far can Beck take us?

I think the knock on his long ball has been a bit overblown.

Re: How far can Beck take us?

He is a team guy! Beck realizes it takes a team to win; He ain't taking nobody anywhere by himself. I like that quality about Beck. Grossman is a little more cocky, but the team needs confidence from the QB position. Beck& Gman will be a serviceable guys for the team whoever starts until we find the "franchise QB" which in my opinion is an overrated need right now. Strong, Fast, tough Defense and Offensive Playmakers = Playoffs
