re: Redskins trade for Jason Taylor (updated)

I'm with JLac here. We were in a bind--this is the best of a difficult situation. If he plays 2 good years, we got a great deal. But even 1 strong will do, IMO.

Wow, Just Your Average First Day Of Camp, Eh?

Man, my head is still spinning. What a crazy day.

Anyway, to me, this is a move the Skins had to make. You're talking about picking up dudes who can, most likely, barely play in the NFL, if at all, versus getting a future Hall of Famer and the premier sack guy in the league over the last 10 years. (Okay, maybe it's Strahan, but he's retired now.)

And Vinny Cerrato was ever-so-confident Taylor is more than a one-year rental, so that's huge, too. It was going to take a second-round pick to get him under these circumstances - the league knew the Skins were desperate as heck now, losing two DEs for the season right off the bat, including a starter.

Taylor will certainly have some entertainment-type stuff he wants to do in the offseason, but with his pedigree, he's earned that right. He's been remarkably healthy his entire career - hasn't missed a start this decade - and is still a beast at 33. You have to try to make this move; there's no one else out there and it was already a very thin spot of the roster even with a healthy Daniels.

The Skins had to act decisively and they did, but I'm not buying that they pulled this off in 45-60 minutes, as Cerrato tried to say, but in the end that doesn't matter. (For what it's worth, the Dolphins still will not confirm this deal as of 7:30).

Good for the Skins. Guys like Chris Wilson should learn a lot from Taylor, and it was a huge gamble banking on Daniels staying healthy all year as the starter in the first place, given his age and injury history.

So, how to they top this Monday?

How do you have 2 season ending injuries on the 1st day of camp. A day in shells. I think the Skins will miss Daniels presence against the run but this is a Division where as the Giants proved last year you have to get after the Quarterback. We will see a lot of draws this year.

We're going to get squashed in the running game. Taylor is the type of phony that ESPN loves to hype but he's not an everydown guy which is why Parcels has been trying to dump his ass from the moment he got there. Leave it Snyder and Ceratto to make his dreams come true. These two are quite a piece of work. Dumb and Dumber.

This isn't directed to you 'Chip but, did we want an improved pass rush, or run stoppage?

I'm concerned about the run game too, but this does help our pass rush. Blache will need to be creative/aggressive on run downs so we don't get exposed there. I don't have a problem with the move, I just wish we could've gotten Miami down to a 3rd & 6th rather than a 2nd.

Taylor doesn't fit in Parcells' 3-4, he's a 4-3 DE. This isn't a case of dumb & dumber, it's a case of "Oh $hit, we just lost 2 DEs in one day". JT will need to make the transition from Weak to Strong-side though, this is a very legit concern. Blache being a DL coach, I'm sure will scheme to protect him in the run game.

LOL, wow what's day 2 of the Zorn era going to look like??!?! I like the move, we're getting a proven stud for a couple (hopefully) of years..

Don't discount Snyder's Hollywood connections to getting a little more out of JT possibly.. That'd be an interesting thing to watch contract wise, if he signs an extension or lower $$ deal, yet gets a multi picture deal with Snyder's studio..

Football-wise it's a huge win though, Taylor vs. Daniels is nowhere close.. Should be interesting around the family dinner table though with his wife being married to Cowboys LB Zach Thomas!

Wow! That would be interesting. I didn't realize his wife was married to Zach Thomas.

What the hell does that mean???..."His wife is married to Zach Thomas?"

I'm pretty sure that would be grounds for a divorce.

Anybody else find it strange that Taylor said he wanted to go to a contender but here he finds himself going to a team that is starting up with a new Head Coach? I'm optimistic about this year, but if I were in Taylor's shoes, I don't know that this would have been the first place on my list. That said, if we somehow make the playoffs this year, I can definitely see him sticking around for 2 or 3 more years.

It was a desperate move but a good one because you lose two DE's one a starter not sure how E. James will be after his injury plus Chris Wilson isn't a every down DE I would have preferred a 3rd rounder but yeah this might be one of the best 2nd round trades in a while for us.

This trade and picking up the best punter available in the draft has in my opinion made this defense 20-30% better. Now if our offense can learn this Zorn offense quickly, this could be a lot of fun.

re: Redskins trade for Jason Taylor (updated)

Based on this years draft we gave up our 1st round pick for (2) 2nd round picks, we will try to do a similar deal next year so giving up a 2nd for next year in my opinion isn't a big deal for a player of JT talent HAIL TO THE SKINS!
