seriously,Schaub has looked good, but so has Sage.Yes Schaub could have a big yr if him and his receivers can stay healthy, but getting back to the point of the thread I think Sage is the best backup,Schaub has been handed the job because of the investment the Texans have in him, lucky for them sage is taking it and not complaining about it
I think Schaub has proven himself a bit more during the regular season than DW.

Exactly what I was thinking!!

I was watching the Giants game the other night... David Carr is finished. The dude is just waiting to get sacked on every snap. They better hope nothing happens to Eli...

I'm not seriously comparing them,I think Schaub is a much better qb than Danny,I'm just saying preseason doesnt count for shit,as for Schaub proving himself more in the reg season,I think he still has a lot to prove,he has a career record of 4-9,thats not really proving yourself,DW's record is 4-6

Matty:

As a matter of fact, Brady Quinn did play in a regular season meaningful game last year. He didn't play a lot, but he played.

Is Quinn better than Todd Collins as a backup QB? No way to know that at the moment because Quinn has not yet played enough NFL football.

Pretend you are Vinny Cerato for a moment. If the clock were turned back to June 1 and you still had all of training camp in front of you to "hone" your back-up QB, would you have traded Collins for Quinn even up?

Depends on what you value. If you want a young guy waiting in the wings to be your future starter Quinn is your guy. If you want a vet who can step in and lead a team in crunch time (and has proven that he can), Collins is your guy.

Re: Todd Collins: Best Backup QB in the NFL?

ehh my one complaint with todd collins is his apparent lack of a comfort level with the new system..yo cant tell me that an average Qb (and im sorry if he was an above average qb he would have been a starter a long time ago) that has been in the same system since fire was discovered can jus tpick up a new offense like that and have the type of success that he had last year.
Was he worth the contract extension we gave him..prob not. but could we do worse? most def.

What has Collins really "proven" though? If the unproven argument works against Quinn as an NFL QB, then it applies almost as well to Collins...who just happens to be 37 years old.

Collins hasn't even played a half season's worth of snaps since since 1997. He'll always have his place in Redskins history for what he helped the team accomplish last year...but like I said earlier, what we "know" about Todd Collins is simply us fans passing judgment on a guy who never hit any kind of adversity (or decent pass defense) last year before the season ended in Seattle.

So while I can give you the fact that based on what we've seen from him as a Redskin, he seems to be an ideal backup, I don't think anyone would be shocked if he were to play poorly this year if forced into action.

I'm just going off what we saw from him last year, which is limited of course. But when compared to what Quinn has done which is even more limited I definitely would have more trust in Collins.

Quinn's college career shouldn't be ignored though. Taken with a grain of salt, perhaps, considering that a large portion of college performance is a non-indicator, but it still should be a factor in the argument.

IMO, the Mark Schlereth-patented "we don't know what he can do yet" is tired (and it's more of a pet peeve of mine than a criticism). Of course we don't know. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't make an educated guess.

Anyway, I think the fact that we created more than 5 posts on a Brady Quinn vs. Todd Collins debate proves that the offseason is not quite over just yet
