I was not a big fan of this when I first heard we were interested, but it is smart to have experience that a rookie can learn from. It also keeps us from reaching in the draft and being forced to take a player at a specific position, now we have experience in some of our weaker areas.

Good post. I think that is exactly why we signed him.

He's a good run stuffer and a good guy -- not a bad signing at all.

Whats with Daniels and contract negotiations? Are we really going to offer him something other then the veteran minimum? I also wonder if the Skins are planning on finding a Montgomery type guy with their 5th round pick. Looking through the list of prospects a few guys come to mind.

- Kyle Moore - DE - USC (I like totally found him all by myself)
- Mitch King - DE - Iowa
- Rulon Davis - DE - Cal
- Pannel Egboh - DE - Stanford
- Matt Shaughnessy- DE - Wisconsin

To offer Dainels the Vet min is a joke. He deserves a better deal than Wynn and I think the FO knows that and are trying to low ball him. We should offer him a 1yr/2mil deal with incentives (staying healthy, and good production). As for the DE prospects, it wouldn't shock me if we selected one of those guys in the 5th.

He's good locker room, a Player-Coach of sorts and we need a body with experience if for nothing else but to help train the DE we're going to draft.

I am against the WYNN move obviously... even more so as Id rather have Daniels, Evans, Canty, Igor, Carter, Peppers ...etc..whoever. I actually like our back up speed rushers and just wanted an upgrade at the starting DE spot. And Wynn is a downgrade, esp. w/o Daniels too. I would like to see Wilson at LB though esp. if we aren't gonna play him much at DE.

Wynn is an obvious upgrade @ LDE over Buzbee, Jackson and Wilson. These guys are totally untested, have questionable size and power for the position as it is played in our system and aside Buzbee is coming off a major injury.

... Wilson at OLB is interesting though. Again he's way too small at LDE and even a bit undersized at RDE to be anything but a pass-rush specialist. I wonder if Blache is thinking this?

Re: Renaldo Wynn Agrees To Terms With Skins

I wasnt saying any of those guys..Buzbee, Jackson, Wilson..etc.. should ever be a starter. But I do like them as back up speed pass rushers only. I would rather try Alexander or K.G. at DE over Wynn though. I just dont think Wynn is any kinda upgrade over Evans, Daniels, Canty. Igor, or maybe even K Carter at this point. I know Wynn is a good locker room guy, and hes a pretty kool cat too as Ive met him a few times. But we can only carry so many defensive lineman and I don't like him more than, Big AL, Carter, K.G., Monty, Griff, Alexander, Wilson, Jackson, Buzbee, and whoever esle we add hopefully to the mix. If this signing was an insurance for injury ok kool, but if he ends up starting or getting significant PT we are in trouble.
But again I would love to see Wilson get a shot at OLB

Yeah all of those guys are more desirable but which one is going to sign for the minimum? <crickets>

Peppers is going to want 20 million a year, why even mention him?

How is Wynn a downgrade? From Buzbee Wilson or Jackson? That is a reach... Until Daniels signs he isn't in the mix yet.

Yep that's what it comes down to. He's an upgrade to what we already have, granted that's not saying much but still. Point is if we had to start someone out of our group of DE's I would feel much better about going with Wynn over Buzbee, Wilson, or Jackson.

That said I will still feel much better about our DE's if we can get Daniels back in the mix.

Word... Blache needs to pick up the phone and make a call (again). A healthy Daniels is a force to be reckoned with. Obviously age and the injury risks come into play but this is a guy who achieved 8 sacks in a season at LDE just a few years ago.
