Re: 2010 NFL Off-Season Rumors and Reports (Week 8)

Also props to Todd McShay. Guy was pretty spot on about the top 10 in 2010 a year in advance including selecting our very own Trent Willimas to go fourth overall, albeit to the Raiders. Remember this was done in April 2009.

Oklahoma dominates 2010 mock draft

Plenty of linemen on the board; two quarterbacks and one wide receiver make the cut

1. St. Louis Rams -- Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma

College football's most accurate passer could emerge as the top overall pick in 2010. The Rams should be in position to draft their future franchise quarterback after passing on Mark Sanchez in this year's draft.

2. Cleveland Browns -- Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska

Suh is an underrated talent with quickness, power and versatility.

3. Detroit Lions -- Russell Okung, OT, Oklahoma State

The Lions should be in the market for a starting left tackle to protect the blind side of 2009 No. 1 overall pick Matthew Stafford.

4. Oakland Raiders -- Trent Williams, OT, Oklahoma

Oakland drafted a wide receiver (Darrius Heyward-Bey) at No. 7 overall this year rather than solidifying its offensive line with OT Eugene Monroe. The Raiders shouldn't make the same mistake in 2010.

5. Kansas City Chiefs -- Jermaine Gresham, TE, Oklahoma

The Chiefs will have some bigger needs along the offensive and defensive lines, but Gresham projects as the premier tight end in the 2010 class. He could become the replacement for future Hall of Fame TE Tony Gonzalez, who was traded to the Falcons, providing QB Matt Cassell a legitimate pass-catching threat over the middle.

6. Seattle Seahawks (from Denver) -- Colt McCoy, QB, Texas

A year from now the Seahawks could be in the market for Matt Hasselbeck's future replacement and don't be surprised if McCoy emerges as a top-10 pick by then.

7. Jacksonville Jaguars -- Gerald McCoy, DT, Oklahoma

The Jaguars need to replenish their interior defensive line and McCoy is college football's most disruptive tackle when he's healthy.

So I guess we have a few guys to keep an eye on next year.

Buffalo Bills

Andrew Luck*, QB, Stanford

Only a third-year sophomore this fall but coach Jim Harbaugh has Luck on the fast track mechanically and mentally. Luck has prototypical size (6-foot-4, 235 pounds) and is an underrated athlete. More importantly, he has a smooth over-the-top delivery, a strong arm and great touch as a passer. Better decisions while gaining more game experience could put Luck in position to become the top player taken in the draft -- either in 2011 or 2012.

St. Louis Rams

Marcell Dareus*, DT, Alabama

After taking QB Sam Bradford with the top overall pick in 2010, the Rams go back to the well with another first-round defensive lineman in Dareus, who is a remarkable athlete for his size (6-4, 296 pounds).

Kansas City Chiefs

Anthony Castonzo, OT, Boston College

The Chiefs target a bookend starter opposite OT Branden Albert. Castonzo has the long arms, lateral agility and balance to emerge as a top-shelf left tackle prospect next year.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Adrian Clayborn, DE, Iowa

The Bucs continue to overhaul their defensive line via the draft. Clayborn could team up with the young defensive tackle tandem of Gerald McCoy (pick No. 3 this year) and Brian Price (pick No. 35) to give Tampa Bay one of the youngest, most talented defensive fronts in the NFL.

Cleveland Browns

Cameron Heyward, DE, Ohio State

Heyward is a local product with the size, power and quickness to give the Browns' base 3-4 defensive front more scheme flexibility.

Washington Redskins

DeAndre McDaniel, S, Clemson

McDaniel is the complete package at safety and he's coming off a 102-tackle, eight-interception season as a junior. Another strong campaign in 2010 should stamp his spot in Round 1 of next year's draft.

Adam_Schefter

Broncos Pro Bowl OT Ryan Clady tore his patella tendon playing basketball. He told people he will miss three months. Could've been worse.

NFLPA president Kevin Mawae puzzled he's still free agent - ESPN

If we are adopting the "Win NOW" philosophy, then why the hell isn't this guy on our roster? He is heads and shoulders better than anyone we have right now as an interior line.

If we are filling spots with winners and old guys, UHHHHHHHHHHH, why not Mawae???

(plus, according to the story, the guy could be gotten for a frikkin song)

I was going to post something similar too. Seriously, since Shanny is so big on competition at every position, bring him in. What competition is there on the OL. In that other thread, everyone on here pretty wel agrees who are starters will be. Even if we just signed him for depth, I'd bet he'd wind up starting.

I guess shanahan doesn't feel like the 8 time pro bowler could improve the strait solid line we have as of now.

Shanny can do no wrong????? Like passing Bruce Campbell up in the 4TH ROUND..........?
I'm getting a little tired of the "gotta have faith" BS. Anyone ever thought that he is doing exactly what players usually do when they come to DC? Cashing a HUGE paycheck at their local bank? Sorry, but Donovan mcnabb and Artis Hicks, along with 8 TE's and aging RB's do not get me all excited.

you complain about aging rb's yet you want an 8 time pro bowler no one else wants? kinda like passing on campbell there is always a reason and atleast now that reason is not vinny cerrato

AND that 8 time probowler is 39 years old. I wouldn't be upset if we signed Mawae, but I am not gonna cry a tear if we don't.

Well, the aging RBs we've gotten have had either not-so-great 2009 season (LJ) or had injury issues (Parker). However, Mawae had a solid season last year and given the needs of our line, he could be a solid stop gap. I would go out on a limb and say that he is a better lineman than Hicks.

This team puzzles me when it comes to the offensive line. Don't get me wrong, it's great that they got T. Williams, and hell you could say Capers is nice future depth. But, I see things like this and wonder if the coaches are putting too much trust in the returning linemen. I guess the only thing I imagine as to why Mawae hasn't been picked up is maybe because he doesn't fit MS' locking scheme?

Re: 2010 NFL Off-Season Rumors and Reports (Week 8)

my point is if we are going to ignore the age issue with the RB's, why not get a guy who has PROVEN that he plays at a pro bowl level at the age of 37/38? It seems like a no brainer to me.

yeah i hear you but like i said i am giving our front office a little bit more credit than past years, if both shanny's think that what we have is solid, or they just think he wouldn't fit, or if they are in works with him for a deal right now, i'm gonna trust their judgement...for now
