He wanted a new contract and the Redskins refused to give him one, and he did not want to be franchised if I remember correctly. That was basically why he got traded.

There were still a couple of running backs better than Portis at the time. Still quite a few running backs that were better at the time, also remember he also came from the Shanahan system which produces running backs like crazy.

Really? Please name "quite a few" backs who were coming off of back-to-back 1,500 yard seasons at the time of the Bailey-Portis trade.

Most underrated: I'm going to say Will Montgomery. He did a heckuva job last year without getting noticed too much, although he did have a few bad snaps.

Most overrated: I'm going to say Orakpo, simply because most say he's pretty good, but he hasn't really played enough to show it. So I'll take a page out of CB59's book and adopt a prove-me-wrong mentality.

Nah, it was more along the lines of personal reasons that he needed to get out of town.

As for quite a few backs being better than him... how many guys put up the numbers that he did over that 2 year span??

In the end I think both teams got what they wanted out of the deal.

The lyrics to Atomic Dog by George Clinton cover it nicely.

Absolutely, both teams got what they wanted and if memory serves not many fans had a problem with the deal either.

Re: Overrated/Underrated Redskins

underrated - lichensteiger, montgomery bc both had very low profiles and expectations coming in and i think both have been very servicable to the zbs.

i leave chester out bc i think when he came over from the ravens he has lived up to but not exceeded expectation of being a decent to good guard. plus he gets a decent salary. i think he is rated just right.

overrated - i take hall off the list since he has a new and fair market value contract. i actually think if hall takes this offseason's disinterest in any team wanting to sign him as a sign he needs to re-eval his approach, i think he can quickly become a shutdown cb. im amazed at how this offseason has played out w regards to hall.

Re: Overrated/Underrated Redskins

I chose Chester because no one really remembers him but he's been our most reliable o-lineman since he came here. I believe it was the 2011 season, he was only starter to go all 16 games if I remember right, and he did a good job.

Montgomery was a great choice. A Center who doesn't draw attention is one who is doing a great job. Remember Rabach's constant TD and drive-killing penalties? He also couldn't snap in shotgun formation...gave Campbell an even tougher job. Since Montgomery took over...no issues.

Other than silverback, chester is our best lineman, bar none.
