There was an article in the Washington Times that mentioned London Fletcher's endorsement.

Last I heard, he was visiting Tampa Bay.

Aside from Fletcher supposedly lobbying for him, I haven't heard anywhere that we're interested in Crowell, and I know he hasn't visited either.

I read a few "Redskins could pursue Crowell" articles, but that's about it. Nothing concrete. That said, I think he would definitely help us.

Patriots acquire WR Greg Lewis from Eagles - NFL - Yahoo! Sports

Eagles lose another player.

I'm not suggesting that ARE be traded, is just that looking at this trade made me think about AREs value.

Re: 2009 Free Agents

I think ARE would make a decent slot receiver this year and if Thomas or Kelly step up that's where we'll see him. I really think he's been out of position since he's been here. That was probably the idea when we got Brandon Lloyd. But to this point nothing has worked out to where we could play ARE at what would be his most productive position.

He does know Wade Phillips Defense, as does Brookings. Probably good pickups for them.

A decent pickup, but a slower, less athletic version of Chris Canty. It's still a downgrade compared to Canty.

Do you think we would have continued to go after Canty had we cut JT earlier?

Absoultely I think that. I think you have to understand that we were looking at them to play two different positions in the defense, but we didn't pursue Canty because of a money allocation issue, which was less of an issue upon Taylor's release.

What the hell are we going to do for a defensive end and a linebacker?

Looks like the negotiations between Tomlinson and the Chargers are not going well.

"Stay or go? Decision now in LT's hands" by Chargers Blog

Also an interesting articles on the Giants' defensive signings. Needless to say, I mentioned Rocky Bernard as a possible free agent acquisition, but after knowing this I'm glad we didn't get him or Boley.

Yeah, they've been talking all week up here about the "character" of the guys the Giants just picked up

I can imagine that. I was just thinking that we had some people go into a praise-the-Giants-FO orgy for a couple of days, yet I was thinking that if the Redskins had signed the likes of Bernard or Boley, there would have been tons of criticism for the character issue (I mean if they complained about Hall, I would hope they would make a fuss about two women-beaters).

Re: 2009 Free Agents

This is still the FA thread right...

... with Willis signing again in Seattle I'm wondering/maybe hoping we don't make another FA move till after the draft. I see it this way: we're desperate for one starter at LB and probably another quality guy for depth, desperate for a LDE starter, and we probably need a much better option at RT. I guess you could throw center in there too but I have the feeling Buges is far from giving up on Rabach so if we take a center it will only be a depth pick later in the draft. So we need 2 or 3 legit starters between now and opening day and in the best case scenario we trade back and somehow get a couple starters w/ our first 2 picks. Probably we only get one starter from the draft regardless of a trade and in that case we still need 1 or 2 starters acquired in FA. I tend to think the best bet will come after the draft then as teams cut players. We're basically looking for leftovers... but leftovers are probably much better than our current options at SLB, DE and even RT.

... FA IMHO hasn't been real impressive. Dock fell into our laps and that's nice but we desperately need upgrades at RT and LB (and now LDE) and not one of those spots were addressed. Actually what's amazing is this is the 2nd offseason in a row we had these exact same needs and somehow the FO hasn't been able to get it done... actually kind of baffling for a simple fan.
