From the assets and flaws, all I read was, we finally have a real defensemen, not some POS that can score, but doesn't know how to play D, coughMikeGreencough.

I love this move. Hannan is a solid defenseman, he's not the guy he was earlier in his career with the Sharks but I think he's a true defensive guy who can definitely provide leadership to our younger guys on the blue line and show them what defense is all about. I heard on ESPN he'dve been the leader of blocked shots on our team for the last 4 seasons, and that's the kind of mentality we need, somebody who will let their play do the talking. Flash was definitely expendable too, we have enough offensive guys on this team and we had the depth to make it happen. I'm excited to see what it's gonna look like with Hannan on the blue line. I'm thinking our lines will go Hannan/Poti, Schultz/Green, and Carlson/Alzner. Plus Hannan is only 31 I think, so he should be good for another 4 years at least.

Varly's playing like Halack in the first two rounds of the playoffs last year. 37 saves on 38 shots (.974 Save Percentage). We're lucky to have two great young netminders.

With all that being said, Varly was ballin tonight. He had an amazing save in the first period and he was consistent throughout the night, the only goal he gave up was that fluky one that hit Carlson.

Re: Washington Capitals 2010-2011 ongoing thread
Ref's were a different type of awful during this game. The league owes the Caps an apology for the horrible officiating that ended up deciding the game.
For those that missed it on top of washing out what was suppose to a game tying goal the refs also called 3 consecutive penalties on the Caps (consecutive meaning the Stars had three powerplays over the course of 7 or 8 minutes in the second period). The worse one came before the second powerplay. Schultz stick was broken on a slash, without a stick Schultz checked a Stars player into the board. The slash was ignored and Schultz was called for boarding. Thank God this was just a regular season game.

Caps got rocked today. 6 game losing streak. Looking like they wear burgundy and gold out there

They need to get Ov in the slot more and set him up with more one timers. Certainly is working well for Tampa's Steve Stamkos. Either way something is very wrong. If this continues then this will be BB's last year. I mean 4 shutouts? For an offensive team like us that's unfathomable. Teams have finally figured out the Caps now they need to evolve.

Re: Washington Capitals 2010-2011 ongoing thread
Anyone watching 24/7 on HBO? After watching tonight's OT loss and then this I can't believe I'm a Washington sports fan. This shit is DEPRESSING!
(but, it's still a great show)

I was to tired and convinced myself it would be good luck if I missed my first game of the year.

Re: Washington Capitals 2010-2011 ongoing thread
As much as I love BB as a person the Caps need to strongly consider a midseason firing and let Woods take over for the rest of the year. Obviously if Woods is successful in the playoffs he stays if not they find a new coach.
The lack of discipline and game planning beyond switching the lines around every 5 minutes isn't working.

Re: Washington Capitals 2010-2011 ongoing thread
I turned last night's game off after Caps went up because I thought I have been bad luck this season. Can't believe they lost!
